I hate it when old people always talk about the "great war" and call everyone stupid for not knowing about it.
When they do that I just think about how they're going to die before me and suddenly it feels better.

I remember a lot of what happened, from history classes, etc., but almost none of the dates.

Honestly, one of the main reasons that I knew that Theodore Roosevelt was instrumental in the Panama Canal is that I did a report on him in grade school.

There was an armed conflict involved with the Panama canal... But you're right, the major wars in history are important to study, if for no other reason than to try to avoid more of them. Knowing the specific years won't help with that, though.

And we do too have a lot of history. Sure, the history of the country only goes back a little over two centuries, but the history of the land and the people of the land goes back much further, and then there's the history of my ancestors, some of whom may have known some of yours. And then there's the history before history.

making up languages can be fun. and utterly pointless
there is this show Game of Thrones, where they made up an entire language for a race of barbaric people. The show is based on books by a writer, but the writer only used some made up words, so the makers of the show had to come up with a whole language so that the characters can speak it.

It's like what they did with Star Trek and Klingon. At first, they just used some made up words. Then they created a language such that it was backwards compatible.
