Some of the shows do. But they get cancelled anyway, if the network makes a holy network decision..

We haven't had a good [Serious] discussion in a while, and while I'm usually one to post the inane/amusing/inappropriate content on this board, I do have a question that I thought I would ask. It is directed towards our non-American ASDFians here: What opinion, if any, do you have about the US reelecting President Obama?

US politics affects Canada a great deal, so although I don't really like politics, I guess I have to care this time. I'm usually very cynical when it comes to politics, but I think I'm cautiously optimistic that Obama would be more aggressive at getting things done because he doesn't have to worry about the next election now, as I agree more with him and the Democrats.

As most norwegians I'm glad he got reelected. I'm not really into politics, but I feel that Obama and the Democrats way of doing things are better, perhaps because it is more similar to the way things are run in Norway. The general feel you get from the Republicans (and I'm not saying everyone is this way, I know they're not) is that they are less accepting so to speak. There's a lot of gay hate and such.

There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Forums of ASDF. But it was a beginning.

also, Romney would send double posters like you to gitmo

I am glad oh bama got reelected. He's a pretty cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything. I like his attitude, and well.. yeah. I don't know much about u.s. politics though, but i do care about their foreign policy, and i prefer obama's approach to the middle east.
I however am not pleased with how Mrs. Clinton criticises my country.

It's a good thing Mrs. Clinton didn't get elected then, huh?

I'm a US citizen, so this question is not directed at me. I'm mostly just posting to say, "Hey, I'm paying attention to the current discussion!"

I lol'd.

Thank you, comrades, for your perspective! Seems like with Obama-Llama-Duck international travel will be okay for Americans for the next four years....I won't have to pretend I'm Canadian!

Today I made a significant change in the groups' forum permissions:
from now on, new users (that is, unapproved people, who are members of the "Registered users" usergroup, not the "ASDF" one) are not allowed to post new topics, only replies to existing topics. They will not see the "New topic" button in the forums.
I really hope this will not be too confusing. I edited the first post of the welcoming topic for clarity.

I did this because most of the spam posts we get are new topics, and we get metric shittons daily, so it's getting increasingly difficult to find the very few legitimate posts among them.

I tested the permissions, so all should be fine, but tell me if something doesn't work. Also tell me your opinions if you have any, but note that we don't have a means to install any other kind of efficient anti-spam system on this board. I don't know what can be done on the root admin-level, so..

Once upon a time, didn't a user have to post in the Introduction topic before being allowed to post elsewhere? I seem to remember that being the policy when I first started, and this is fairly close to that. As long as we make it clear to legitimate new users somewhere the steps they have to take to post in the forums, then I think that will work.

And I've never liked spam, so anything we can do to keep that disgusting substance out of these forums is a-okay in my book.

It makes sense to me, unless it ends up driving all of the spam from new topics to active ones.

Yep, because once you're approved, you're approved, unless you got an admin to un-approve you in order to test things out.
