Also, does it legit freak anybody else out how little of the human body is necessarily to live? I mean, I'm not even being edgy this time. It's not very farfetched that someone could use proper surgery techniques to remove all but the brain, the heart, and the nervous + circulatory system. Digestion isn't necessary if nutrition is directly fed into a person's bloodstream.

Skeletal and muscular systems don't contribute directly to survival at all (though, having bones does help avoid predators). While respiration and urination are usually vital, you don't need to pee if you get your energy through IV tubes. Respiration is pretty important, but since it's only job is to pump oxygen through your blood, you could feasibly do that with an oxygen tank, and maybe an iron lung or smth.

Reproduction is irrelevant for our purposes.

So, you're left with a brain and a heart, and a large number of veins and nerves. If we understood more of the brain, we may be able to remove a lot of those veins, maybe leaving just a single organ system (circulation).

For all intents and purposes, this horrific experiment would be a fully sentient, developed human being. I hate this.
