asdf is indeed a very powerful sequence of letters. During the World War II, the Axis tried to use asdf's power for evil purposes: The enigma machine, a cipher machine used to encrypt top secret messages.

The machine was reverse engineered in 1932 by expert asdfologists from the asdf bureau. Today, the true meaning of asdf is still hidden.

Don't get me wrong, awef is still better than asdf in most uses. For example, in cryptography, the most advanced standard is the AES (Awef Encryption Standard).
