In all honesty, I don't think they've ever been all that "good." The internet lets so many people share new content so fast that our taste in what's funny at the current moment also changes fast

Like how America's Funniest Home Videos aired for years and people thought it was absolutely hilarious, but now it's kinda mediocre

It's not really about the people, it's about the content. In turn, people created the content, and it was nice to see familiar people dong things. But now, YouTube has become a never-ending-money-machine for daytime shows, nighttime shows, list-makers, lets-players, and advertisers. It's just getting harder and harder to find the true spirit if YouTube.

In my own personal experience, people (like me) make videos because they're fun to make. If you don't like them then don't watch them. They will still make content even if nobody watches them.
