Is it worth it?

Post by lil timmy » Tue May 25, 2010 5:35 am

I'm trying to decide whether or not to sign up for a guided 14 day tour of Europe. It goes from London to Paris to Amsterdam to Berlin and on to Prague. And includes entrance to a number of different historical sites, such as the Tower of London.

Overall it costs $3,500 (not including meals). I would have to pay for it myself.

You think it's worth the money? Or should I just plan my own trip to Europe? Thought I'd ask you guys since some of you are actually from Europe.

P.S. Does anyone know the drinking age in those cities? =P

18 in London, not sure about rest but it shouldn't be higher. I'd say you've got some good cities in that trip, your own trip could get you into more interesting places, but it would probably have worse living conditions and may get you stuck somewhere (I've heard stories of this, at least).

i've never actually toured Europe so i have no idea if thats a reasonable price.
i guess if you like guided trips then its ok. I personally prefer roaming where i please.
Anyways, have fun on your trip! :)

18 is the legal age in all those countries (to my knowledge anyway), so it shouldn't be a problem if you're 18+... I assume the tour includes lodging as well? $3,500 sounds a lot either way tbh, though it is 14 days so I'm not quite sure... I think it'll be cheaper if you plan your own trip, that way you can also decide a lot more on where you want to go and so on...

I would never give that kind of money for a trip...
But if you like seeing buildings, be our guest... ;)

I hear beer was invented as an alternative to polluted water. Monks made it.

How much does it cost to travel by train in Europe? (like from England to Paris) and how much does public transportation usually cost within the cities?

I'm not sure about the Eurostar, but the tube seemed to be only a few pounds from one station to the next on my last visit. I went to see Prince. He was pretty good.

It costs about 1,200 for a round trip ticket, but I still need to factor in transportation, food, and lodging.

Sleep in a nearby ditch if it gets too expensive, eat/drink maggots, and ride a [insert insect of your choice here].

Aldi are in a lot of European countries and sell stuff really cheaply. As for lodging, i'm not so sure about any countries, but I have been researching Prague for a project at college and I found a found a nice looking hotel called Apart Hotel SUSA. It's quite close to some good stuff like Charles Bridge and the Lennon wall.

No idea, probably... Looks like they're based on the same idea though...

I don't know. You'll also have to factor in the places you go to. The schedule/agenda. They might have had discounts and they might go to more cool places. Also, it might be easier.

Money wise, I'm not sure.

Easier yes, but I like to plan out those sorts of things.

I wish I just had tons of money or rich parents or something.
