Ultimate video game thread: an analysis

Post your favorite video game but make sure it's a really old game or an obscure indie game to show everybody how cultured and cool you are

When I was a kid I played a futuristic racing game called Outrage on my PC, there's very little evidence of its existence I can find besides this one video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOP8opnrAK8

This makes it the ultimate video game

I remember playing a silly browser game called Wow Wow Wubzy's (not sure how to spell this) Amazing Adventure.

Me and my brother joked for years that it's the best game ever, and that we had the speedrun world record for it lol

Also remember playing that PETA Cooking Mama rip-off and not realizing it was a parody lolol

Now that I think about it, I remember playing a game called 'Ray' I think? Another flash game (either on Andkon or some stickman game website) and it was fucking traumatizing. I don't remember how I got there but the whole game was (I think) about 'Ray' trying to save his wife from getting raped or something and to do that he kills and tortures people.

I still remember this hilarious scene (which me and my brother also quote) where after interrogating a guy you can either kill him, leave him or "PISS ON HIM!!" which is obviously hilarious and the best choice.

Definitely not made for kids, but to be fair neither is the internet.

Damn you sent me on a whole nostalgia trip.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Middle_Earth - Literally just remembered this game from my misspent youth a few days ago. Available on various abandonware websites for your enjoyment.

Also:

(Sierra On-Line FTW!)

We had a CGA monitor and I can remember wanting a VGA monitor more than anything in the world. "Cause, you know, old. :assdef:

I've been playing Heat Signature mostly in the last couple of years. It has its flaws but it's also really good.

also Teardown is dope, so is Outer Wilds

I don't really have a favorite game though

Did you misspell fortnight?

Even if you did, I don't know how two weeks could be a 'video game'?

To my knowledge, a 'video' is a moving picture and a 'game' is anything that is fun...

So a 'video game' should be a 'moving fun picture'

So, is imagination a video game? I guess a dream could be one, too?

Hello friend, I believe you may have misunderstood. You see, the term 'Fortnite' in this particular use case is in fact referring to a most popularist viddyo game, whereinst multiple players zoom rather fast around a large map, trying to commit a treason. This in fact differs from the other use cases, which refer to the amount of days being a certain number (I believe 13 days? Give or take a few.)

A Bugs Life on the PS1 will always hold a special place for me. All of the 90’s/00’s Disney Interactive games, really. Despite being an obvious cash grab for a movie, almost all of them are very well made with a replayability a lot of games now don’t have.

I also play a ton of Minecraft. I have a build from 2011 that I’ll probably never stop working on.

Same :)

Actually, was playing a lot more before I started with Guild Wars 2, which takes most my gaming time now.

That is crazy dedication, homie!

I've had a few long-term worlds over the years, but all of them are certainly gone by now.

My record (from memory) is probably like 4 months or something. That's probably also my maximum for any given multiplayer server.

What's most impressive to me is that you still have that world file after a whole decade! I'm pretty sure nothing I own virtually has lasted that long.

A Bugs Life on PS1 was fun, but I got stuck on the level where you fly on the dandelion. Birdies kept eating me

That level always drove me nuts because I would think I had collected everything from the starting area and then leave, only to be unable to come back when I realized I missed one piece of grain and now I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN and oh my GOD will that BIRD just LEAVE ME ALONE

The trick is to rest at the spinny flowers until you reach max height and THEN move forward. Took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure that one out.
