dieties or deities
a diety deity is a deity on a diet
I assume beginning deities may have to watch their diet and moderate their intake of corrupt souls for a while
but idk, I guess Froggychum will be the expert here

Tips on Godhood (that I wish people had told me in advance):

- Do not let your Divinity be affected by your believers. Mortals are complete idiots and if you let them decide what your authorities are, you'll look away for a mere few thousand years and then BOOM - you're no longer God of Endless Chaos, you're just the God of some particular city on a nobody planet in the middle of who cares

- Try not to bind yourself to a particular location. Having more than 1 Divine Domain can be impossible depending on the nature of your divine essence or the particular structure of the reality you occupy. If you can only have 1 Divine Domain, make absolutely sure it is an independent plane or dimension. DO NOT tie it to a physical location. Hostile astral entities can easily destroy planets, and your domain won't survive that.

In a similar vein, don't become bound by a Worldsoul. Most planets have a soul. If it's an unconscious fledgling, you're probably fine (though if it's powerful enough it could inherently alter the natural laws around it) - but if it is mature enough to communicate with, you don't want to let it force you to become a mere God. In order to remain in the same realm as Primordials and Cosmic Beings, you need to ensure you can stay as a Star God (also called Cosmic God, or Astral God) - becoming a mere 'God' means you're limited to a specific area.

tl;dr it's good to keep your options open. Don't let one World monopolize your attention, or else you'll become a mere Divine being.

- Do not confuse immortality with Divinity. After mortality comes immortality. Immortals are plenty capable of altering mortal subconscious. This does not make them gods, let alone cosmic deities. You might not actually be a deity yet, you need to inspect whatever makes up your being (normally referred to as aspects or factors, but it varies) - be that a Body, Mind and Soul - or a more complex list which may additionally include: Essence, Spirit, Qi, Heart, Origin, Fate, Blood Essence, Life Essence, and Death Essence. Limitless others are possible, depending on the structure of the reality you are a native to.

Divinities are distinguished from Immortals based on the level of ascendancy of their consciousness, and their existential weight. While an immortal can break beyond the boundaries and limiters placed on mortals (ex. Forbidden magics such as Chronomancy) they aren't Divine. Divinity can require a number of things depending on your reality, but normally it requires having some sort of divine authority (also called a divine nature or domain, not to be confused with a Divine Domain which is also sometimes called a Sanctuary, Temple or Holy Land). You might be able to avoid limiting yourself to a specific field via authority, if you instead simply suffuse yourself with Divine Energy. In some realities this isn't possible, since divine energy is created through exercising the divine nature, but others may have this possible.

Of course, Cosmic Deities exist on the realm beyond the Divine, but if you're existence is heavier than the above two, you're probably at this realm (sometimes called the Eternal Realm).

One more thing: If someone honestly is calling themselves a True Immortal... Run. They are at the very least Eternal (meaning equal to a true Cosmic Deity such as what you yourself may be), but they are very plausibly even Transcendents.... something I'm not going to talk about since it would just bring you harm.

- Don't make the biggest foolish mistakes that even expert gods make:

1. Do not deny your own existence. This is antithetical to divinity.
2. Do not use your divine power against yourself without knowing exactly what you're doing, you might trap yourself in an unavoidable situation.
3. Do not carelessly give away blessings, stigmatas or portions of your authority. This includes to beings you dub as "Champions", "Apostles" and so on. Even if you are capable of reading mortals deepest consciousnesses directly, or otherwise violating their inherent autonomy (sometimes known as the Aura of Control), there are still ways they can trick you (self-hypnosis for less omniscient gods, or utilizing the astral memory contained within their astral self for more omniscient gods [this might be unavailable if they do not have an astral self as one of their aspects])

Even if they have good intentions, if you don't set things up properly, they could drain your power by carelessly using your gifts. Look to your divine senpais for tips on how to properly interact with mortals.

--------

That should be all for now.

Most of these rules don't apply to truly cosmic beings, but if you've only just started altering mortal subconscious you are probably just Divine, or maybe even high-end Immortal (which are totally capable of creating new species or forming cults, for example) - and probably not truly Cosmic/Eternal/Primordial/Astral whatever you call it.

Overall, don't be arrogant. Gods are often arrogant. You WILL end up like the 3rd rate young master type trash mobs from xianxia novels, it's just a matter of time. Never piss off a Transcendent. Never.

Also, atomtengeralattjaro made good points: Diets do matter, but everything does when you're a god. In some ways, you are more limited than you would be as an immortal. Personally, I rarely walk the path of Divinity, and prefer walking the path of immortality / transcendance. Gods can't become transcendent, after all (not without restarting from the beginning anew).

Eating souls is probably not possible unless they are transient mortal souls. Immortal souls are usually utterly inviolable, except to high-end Eternals or Transcendents, but some realities vehemently prevent the ability to destroy or directly maim/corrupt souls.

Keep in mind, even mortal beings can have immortal souls.

Anyway, if you can eat souls you are either incredibly powerful already or part of a reality where that is actually pretty commonplace... The latter is more likely. Seriously, if you need to ask me about altering mortal subconscious, you probably can't devour souls in any respect.

---

If you have other questions feel free to ask.
I can offer more specific advice on altering mortal subconsciouses at a later date, but I mainly focused on beginner tips for new gods.
Gods have more weaknesses than people imagine. Astral Gods / Star Gods / whatever you call them are much closer to omnipotent and almighty, but are still limited in certain key areas.

I've already transcended countless realities so I can tell you these things with authority.
