I have waited years for someone to ask me that question (btw I think there's already a thread about this tho)
Rammstein - metal - <5% explicit - desc: German metal band
Sublime - ska?* - ~20% explicit - desc: chill
Pucifer - metal - >50% explicit - desc made by Maynard James Keenan, very good
Tool - metal - ~20% explicit - desc: same singer, slightly less explicit
Johnny cash - country - 0-1% explicit - desc: THE country man
Ween - EVERYTHING - 25% explicit - desc: weird (not shit, just brown)
Primus - Alt rock - 1-5% explicit - desc: like ween, but less explicit
Bob Bernard - jazz - 0% explicit - desc: jazz
*(I don't know what sublime falls into, might be wrong about ska)
that's all i can think of right now

Re: your favorite songs/musicians
Relatable. Also, even if it exists already who would know? Nobody posts in Art anyway lmaoI have waited years for someone to ask me that question (btw I think there's already a thread about this tho)
re:your music
Most of that stuff isn't familiar, sadly
But, I've heard exactly two songs from Mr. Cash:
1. Hurt (godliest cover ever)
2. Ring of Fire (also pretty good)
Here's a full list of all the music in my playlists:
I don't listen to all these songs equally, so some might not reflect my current taste
(warning large spoiler ahead. click at your own risk)
Formatting goes like this: "Name of Song (Artist/Producer) Runtime"
Spoiler:
Also, no I didn't write this all out. I already had this written down in a big document I have to keep track of how I spend my time (anyone else do this?). These are also originally part of youtube playlists but I'm not sharing those for two reasons:
1. They have cringy titles
2. They are attached to my YT account which uses my real name. you could probably find it if you looked through all my previous posts, but thats weird so dont do that lol
Indentated songs without runtimes are part of a larger video with multiple songs.
I can link a vid directly if u have trouble finding it (like that one without a name or artist, it's a real vid tho not a typo on my part)

This list is always growing BTW, cause whenever I find new music I like I put it in there

Music is good.
First thing I saw was Kevin McLeod, haha, cool stuff, well known for royalty-free music used by various low-budget projects, love the guy

Most of the time I just listen to background music while I work, something ambient or lofi girl on youtube. (Also "ADHD relief" music seems to help me focus. No, I don't have ADHD. At least I don't think I do. Maybe a little. Probably not. Shut up.)
But I do also listen with attention. Usually I prefer full albums, but I also pick individual songs sometimes.
I tried to find a few diverse examples:

Absolutely. It's excellent, in my opinion.should I watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? it's on my list
Supremely stylish and a damn good story.
Be prepared to possibly cry, though. I don't remember exactly, but I think I either teared up or it even had me weeping.
Also, major explicit content warning (violence, nudity, bad language, etc) in case it's not obvious.
It's not super long, either, which is good in my opinion.

Re: your favorite songs/musicians
update on froggy's list:
I listened to the cranberries song, it does ring a bell, good one.
and I just noticed you have King Crimson on there, okay then! My faves from them are: "Level Five", "Eyes wide open", and of course "21st Century Schizoid Man".
And I wonder what is this: () 2:29 (the empty parentheses does make it look like a Sigur Rós album's title, I know it's not that, I just wanted to flex and I like that album).
Damn, Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" is fire, another one I must've heard before but probably only like once. Makes me think what if he just kept adding new verses to it as time passed, woah.
Used to listen to lots of Nirvana as a teen, never got into Foo Fighters for some reason. And I kept seeing Coldplay videos on MTV.
I didn't know For Sirens (Ensiferum), it's not bad, if you like this stuff, you might enjoy Amorphis.
Barns Courney is new to me, it's decent.
edit:
And update on naddarobo's list:
Primus is kinda fun, I used to listen to their albums Antipop and Green Naugahyde a lot

Lil update to my list:
Cake - rock - desc: a smooth and fantastic hillbilly singing over groovy bass hooks
Tub Ring - ??? - desc: hard to describe, but good
That handsome devil - alt rock - desc: kinda edgy, but still good sometimes
Individual songs:
the moss: Cosmo Seldrake
A good song never dies: Saint motel
Ain't no rest for the wicked: Cage the elephant
Still here: portal soundtrack (also known as the portal radio song)
For Froggychum I recommend Cake
and Atomgeneraljaro I don't know what to recommend, maybe Mindless self indulgence? (I didn't like them but maybe you will)

Re: your favorite songs/musicians
Definitely! It's interesting, because the singer (RIP Dolores O'Riordan) actually uses a technique which resembles the weeping of mothers at their childrens' funerals (I think it's called crooning or maybe something else) which is what gives it such a resonant sound.atomtengeralattjaro wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 4:19 pmI listened to the cranberries song, it does ring a bell, good one.
I'll check those songs out! I'd only heard of the 21st century schizoid man, but I like the band's sound from what I've heard.
An animated music video I found on YT without a title. People in the comments joke that it is unsearchable, which is kind of true.() 2:29
Here, let me grab it:
He also wrote Piano Man!Damn, Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" is fire, another one I must've heard before but probably only like once. Makes me think what if he just kept adding new verses to it as time passed, woah.
Actually, Fallout Boy recently released a '2020-version' of the song. IMO it's pretty bad, and rather arrogant of them to be so self-serious about basically writing a parody cover, so I hope they meant it as nothing more than a joke. People are really pissed off in the video comments, which is fair enough.
I say all that as a fan of Fallout Boy's music (I don't follow bands for personality, or whatever), but yeah, this was a weird thing to do.
Nirvana is really great. It's a bit later than my mom's generation (she was born in '62) but it reminds me of some of the stuff she likes. I think she also really likes Nirvana, actually.Used to listen to lots of Nirvana as a teen, never got into Foo Fighters for some reason. And I kept seeing Coldplay videos on MTV.
It took me a while to 'get into' Foo Fighters. I still only like a couple of their songs. My main issue with the band is their lyrics are kind of repetitive and bland. The energy and sound are both pretty good, though.
Coldplay has a notoriously bad reputation. I think it's probably because they suffer from being over-played on the radio (like a lot of songs from Imagine Dragons). On their own merits, the worse you could say is that they are 'uninspired' but honestly I find them fairly good so idk
I don't usually listen to metal, but I like that these guys have a mix of harsh and clean vocals. Gives them a less grating sound.Ensiferum
I'll check out Amorphis!
Not a big country fan, but his music is pretty catchy and the edgy lyrics help me get my creative juices glowing.Barns Courney is new to me, it's decent.
Most of all, I really like his voice. Very deep and soothing.
---
From Naddarobo's list, I'll check out Tool and the alt-rock stuff. I'm always looking for alt rock songs, and with an album named 'Lateralus' they sound cool as hell lmao
---
Edit (Naddarobo posted b4 I could lol)
Sounds like the sort of thing I would adopt as a guilty pleasure LMAOThat handsome devil - alt rock - desc: kinda edgy, but still good sometimes
I'm somewhat familiar with Cage the Elephant.Individual songs:
the moss: Cosmo Seldrake
A good song never dies: Saint motel
Ain't no rest for the wicked: Cage the elephant
I'll check out the other two, though!
Dallon Weekes is his name. He's got a great voice! He used to be part of Panic! At The Disco which I also like.I've only listened to "Nobody likes the opening band" and "Do it all the time". Good singer, very weird might delve deeper
Some of their stuff is really weird, while some of it is less so. Here are all the songs from them I like (minus the two you've heard):
- Choke (cheery and violent, very fun)
- Bleed Magic (not sure how to describe this one. a bit weird, maybe?)
- Absinthe (as above)
- Leave Me Alone (weird lyrics, but a fairly straightforward message. It's pretty good IMO)
- New Invention (probably my least favorite. I've only listened to it a couple times but it gest tiring quickly)
- Clusterhug (a love song, I think? It's fine)
- From the Gallows (a dark love song. one of the weirdest ones)
- Need you Here (really beautiful. not my absolute favorite sound, but probably the best in terms of what it's trying to say)
- Sugar Pills (aaaand we 're back to weirdness. Good message though about drug use or smth)
- Mad IQs (sort of similar to Leave Me Alone. I like this one less, though)
Huh, if you say so. I'll give it a shot, maybe I'll be surprised lololFor Froggychum I recommend Cake

Re: your favorite songs/musicians
Lots of music here, most of which I don't think I've heard before! Need to check it out.
Here's a list of things I've been listening to recently as well as a couple of my favourites.
Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden
Sleep Token - The Summoning (and more... honestly just the entire album, it's absolutely fantastic).
Architects - Animals (++ saw them live, was amazing)
Bad Omens - Just Pretend
Unprocessed - deadrose
Gojira - Another World (they were also great live)
The Pretty Reckless - Absolution
Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (and now for something completely different! It's a bop though)
Miike Snow - Genghis Khan (so is this)
Rain City Drive - Talk to a friend
Caskets - Glass Heart
Ren - Chalk Outlines (though the live version is so good. So many Ren tracks I can recommend)
Junipe Vale - Fractions
And lots more, none of these are from my favourite growing up, which include but not limited to:
- Pink Floyd
- Genesis
- Supertramp
- Linkin Park
- Alan Walker (gotta support the Norwegians)
- Rammstein (biggest live concert I've been to, biggest one ever in Norway)
- Mystery Skulls
- Muse
- BabyMetal (also a great live concert)
- Dream Theater
Not to mention soundstracks from movies, anime, or games (stuff like Suzume, Dune, Frieren, Hollow Knight, Ori, and more) or Eurovision songs which was recently.

Adding these to my long list of 'stuff to listen to in the future'
BTW absolutely love Ren. Great music, and he seems like a real one with a clear message.
My favorite is his Money Game pt. 2 (I might actually be the weird one since I didn't find it through the memes)
Everything I've heard from him is good though. He definitely puts his soul into these songs.
The only thing I dislike about the music is that some of the videos have some long pauses and even spoken monologues in them. That's obviously intentional and done to great effect, but my ADHD ahh can barely cope lmao.
BTW absolutely love Ren. Great music, and he seems like a real one with a clear message.
My favorite is his Money Game pt. 2 (I might actually be the weird one since I didn't find it through the memes)

Completely agree. My cousin recommended him, what's the memes? But yeah, most of his songs have a clear message and isn't necessarily something you put on to have in the background.

A part of the Money Game Pt. 2 song became famous when somebody made a video of Luigi (from some Mario game) gesticulating wildly at another Luigi with the track playing over. The video is called "Luigi Explains Capitalism" or something very close to that
IMO the reason it went viral is 'cause the rap section actually goes unreasonably hard. Anyway, the whole idea of the meme is pretty funny - though I suspect it's basically just an excuse from the meme creator to share a song they liked.
IIRC, Ren acknowledged the meme on Twitter and seemed positive about it.
I'm not nearly as into meme culture as I was back in high school. Probably a natural course of events, honestly, so hopefully I explained this well enough. I'm 21 years old and not ready to be called a boomer by teenagers yet, after all XD

Jeff Besos is an open ttd player who wanted to play the game irl
Anyways, Getting back on topic:
I realize that my recommendation for Froggychum was COMPLETELY WRONG! I should've said tub ring, a Band that's very similar to IDKHBTFM. I recommend their latest album, A Choice Of Catastrophes. (you can trust me this time)
Speaking about IDKHBTFM, I listened to more of them, and some of their songs are very good. (some)
I kinda call everything alt rock if I don't know the exact genre (or if i can't bother to look it up) so take some of those with a grain of salt

Re: your favorite songs/musicians
Every genre is just alt rock with extra steps XD
I actually have a shameful confession to make:
I haven't listened to any of this music yet. I'm sowwy
I definitely plan to - I have it written down in my big todo list! You can trust me (probably)
