In order to help you i need you to answer a few questions. How bad are your grades? I mean, can you give us a list?
Second, what do you love to do? What kind of things are you interested?
Third, how exactly are you studying? Can you describe your sudy habits?
Fourth, what exactly is bringing down your grades? Missing work? Low quiz/test scores?
Answwer these, and I think I can help you.

well let's see......
i guess my grades aren't FAILING, i pretty much have a C averege in everything
i love to read books and play video games, but don't get to do either of those that much because im too busy studying
I study by going over my notes i took in class every day for at least 3 hours
I try to say the notes out loud so i can hear them again, i sometimes re-write them down
the main thing that is bringing my grades down is my test scores
i do good on all the other stuff but when it comes time to tae my test, i freez up
i can't seem to remeber anything i learned
i guess i should be happy with my C average, but im not.....am i setting my standards too high? that might be the problem
Im not looking for a miracle guys, just some advice. Could you help me out?

What they did with me is that they took away everything that distracts me, sutch as television, computer, even graphical calculator (I always make games on it )...
Tough I have yet to see the results of this technique...

Well, Shadow, you seem to be a pretty smart person, so I don't think your standards are too high. I think you're simply experiencing some sort of anxiety that might be interfering with your ability to think during tests. Does your school have a guidance councilor? I had a similar problem, and realized I had stress coming from home, interfering with my ability to think clearly. I talked to a councilor and sorted that out, and now I'm doing soo much better!
I also found out later I had OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), which was affecting my thinking as well. That's also being taken care of.

I'd say that C's are good to me but I know that it's not accepted as average anymore. I used to have the same problem with tests and I would study for hours. Now I don't know that I suggest this for more than 1 test but try not studying. I never study and now I do better on tests. However if you know you don't know the material and trust me you will know. I suggest doing a review if they give you one or read a review. Don't burn your self out on studying though. Like I said however DON'T TRY THIS MORE THAN ONCE! If it works once try it again until you do bad on a test. This is not likely to work so use it as an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT.

Actually, Lunar, that's been working for me as well, lol. I suggest it in the same way Lunar does, as a last resource. You might be surprised though...

I'm guessing it goes like this?
A - Top grade
B
C - Average
D
E - Worst grade
Or am I completelly wrong here?
Also, you might want to relax before the test, take the night of the day before the test and relax, play some games, read some books... You get the idea... An old teacher once said that too me, I'm not sure how much it helps, but it's worth a try, right?

and the most important thing is, wether or not studying works, NEVER cram. Or at least, refrain from it. The brain tends to practically shut down when it gets overworked, so 3 hours a night is not helping.

Another thing to remember. Study and do your home work in a COMFORTABLE environment. Leave the TV off though... I tried doing my homework w/ it as background noise and just ended up watching that. But music is good, how hungry you are and even lighting could be a problem. Simple things like this could even help.

Okay. As some of you may know, I'm in a program called ROTC. It's basically a leadership class. Currently, I'm a 1st Lt, which is pretty high compared to other cadets, which means that the other cadets lower than me, and above me, should be taking me more seriously.
But, my captain in Color Guard, *Damien, embarrasses me in front of my team. He belittles me in front of them, making me look like I cant do my job and he makes me look really, really dumb. He and I are good friends, and I dont know how to confront him about his antics.
What I'm asking here is, how do I get him, and the other cadets, to take me more seriously?

How do I put this... Where I work I am a crew trainer. We must listen to the Team Leaders, Team Managers, First/Second/store managers. The ones who learn/listen to us is the crew. I get made fun of and such but I do my job and I do it well. I don't mind the making fun of me and such as we are all are either friends, from work kind of thing, or we put up with each other. When I tell the crew to do something they do it. If they don't I tell them again and add serious tone. If it's not done and I have placed the task appropriately a manager usually steps in. They do their job given to them or get a warning and if no compliance they get canned. That's just me though. I don't know how you are to people but if I were in your situation, and I have been, I usually tell them to please lay off.... if this does not happen I say with serious tone... that let's them know I'm not joking with them and as they are my friends they have the respect to stop what was bothering me. I don't know if this helps but uh... your welcome!

i used to have a teacher who did that. He would constantly call me out to answer questions i didnt know the answer to. I think he did this to make me work harder in class cuz i had a pretty low average. Mabey you're having the same problem. What i did was make sure iknew all the material, and it didnt happen again.
