I am on my computer all the time and play video games a lot. But I also play an instrument. I'm in band. I have some friends there that I play games online with. This isn't the old days where that isn't productive. IMO the most productive thing you can do for your 'education' of life is to be online. I went to band camp and met many people there from other countries. Sweden, France, Brazil, Pakistan, China, and even Australia. This doesn't even hold a candle to the people I've met online. Sure you can't trust everyone but many of these people like CX, Atom, Shai are people that I've come to trust in their information about where they live. My advice is thus. If you think your not being productive and social. Think of all of those people you know even a little about because of your online activities- seem so anti social/productive now? Well if so go do what you want. Literally! Wanna paint your car? DO IT! Even if it don't look fantastic when your done the fact is YOU DID IT! Sick of your chair? Build one. Look up a manual and build that sucker! Being social isn't that hard, I'm not very social but I can be if I want. Once me and my cousin went to the mall, he saw a pretty girl and wanted her number but didn't want to uh... some lame excuse I can't even remember, but I figured that she was like many of the other females around here, pretty but not very prepared to deal with the different. I promptly walked up, gave her a fake name and asked for her number. Out of that I got her number. I gave it to him walked about 30 feet off and he called her. The number was real and they dated for about... four weeks but that's not my problem, I did my job! So if you are looking for advice I'd say, do before you think... usually.

So you thought that being at a compy all the time (just like if you were a programmer/designer) would not help your being a programmer or designer? Well in any case I'm glad I could help!

oh dont worry, im thinking for you when im not logged in.

so, this isnt so much as a question or advice as it is inspiring words.

i graduated high school in `08, and since then i had so many problems moving on with my education. my main problem? i couldnt for the life of me figure out what i wanted to spend the rest of my life doing....

so i went to a community college to try and get started on biology to become a biology teacher...well... that didnt work out. i didnt truly have my heart in, so i dropped out. (for that reason and a few others)

but this year i finally figured out that i want to do what i had wanted to do when i was in high school. and that is game design and development management. sounds great right? well, once i looked into it, i found out that its not as amazing as i predicted. dont get me wrong, the field itself is great, but the job outlook for it here is slim to none. i would have to move far away in order to do it, and that would be absolutely terrible.

so i looked at my second option, and i i thank God everyday that i did. culinary arts. that was another thing i wanted to do for so long. so i have planned and will go to CCS starting in september for my bachelors in fine arts in culinary arts degree. and i couldnt be more excited for school (unless michele was there waiting for me hehe)

so much better outlook, so much fun....and....mmm...FOOD!

so my point is, keep backup plans, find more than one thing that you love and that you would love to spend the rest of your life doing.

i mean, yeah, my other career passioon is music, you know, playiong music. but that industry is so tough and unsteady, i have to be careful.
Come read my new book coming out soon!

That's a really good positive attitude, Shadow. You should never let your fear get in the way of your future.

You know, in my own opinion, life is about taking risks. Adventure!
I'm joining the Army Reserves in a little more than a year...you think I'm scared? Of course!

I'm doing it for a few reasons...some of which I don't care to discuss. Some, I will though.

I have a ton of fears...heights, weapons, death, pressure, being stranded, the dark...the army has all of that. Plus, it has college money in store for me.

The main reason I'm joining is to gain respect...to make my family proud.
So far, my older brother is wasting away. He's 26 and still has no career. My older sister is 24 and has no career. She has a son and she's pregnant with another. Soon, she'll have no home.

I have the choice to overcome my fear and have a future with a college degree, and a future living comfortably with Bobby. So, I think overcoming my fears is a better option than wasting away like my siblings have. Am I right?

Anyone disagree?

my siblings are exactly the same way (but they're just not as old)
they're lazy, unmotivated slobs who have the potential to be so much more, but aren't trying
im going to be the one who's going to have to look after all the family affairs and such once i grow up. That's a big responsibility, but its something im going to have to do. they're family right?
oh, and good luck with the Army Reserves thingy. you have way more guts than i do to be signing up.

lol, thank you.

It's pretty freaky..thinking about your future when you're young.

It's also scary, in a way. Everyone has big dreams, but who knows if they'll even work out? I think that's my biggest fear. Having all of these plans for the future, and then none of them working out, somehow. You know?

Ive thought about joining the military, but really I have no reason other than the fact that I want to become a general... it really takes a lot of dedication to join the military..it also takes a huge chunk of time out of your life which I know you could spend doing something worse like wasting away your time but I just have never been able to stick with much of anything for very long.. I guess it would be cool if you could somehow travel while your in the military. I am also obsess with war and weapons and strategy and I have a number of relatives in the military plus both my grand fathers were in the military... my moms dad actualy invented something like the RPG launcher which I think is freakin awsome

i see your problem
you just have to find something that you enjoy and you'll stick with it.
if that thing is in the military, then by all means go for it :D

What I dont get is why everyone seems to think that all of our problems will go away as soon as Obama gets innagurated. He is just a human being like the rest of us. hes a fucking lawyer for gods sakes, what did he just get enlightened so he became a politician and ran for president?
I just hope to god that he doesn't fuck up this country even more in is effort to bring "change"..change...hahaha
