Well, that person is in dire need of a friend or loved one.

If they're wanting to kill themselves, they're bottling their feelings inside, and they more than likely need someone to talk to, and someone to be there for them.

Whomever your friend is, I would suggest confronting them about it. Make them feel comfortable, and let them know you're there for them. Your goal is to make them feel that their problems are not as bad as they think, and when times are rough, suicide is not the answer, and it never will be.

This is something that I know more than first hand. First off, it's harder to end than you think if that's any security to you, don't tell them that though it'll just make them try harder. DomTar is basically right. They DO need to talk, but getting them to feel comfortable (well assuming the case is similar) enough to talk to someone will be easier said than done. I'll just say this in how it was for me because I can't really provide help out side of that. They may feel that what they have to say is VERY sensitive and may be taken the wrong way, or distributed. Even if you are the only person they know and you are some how soul mates and could NEVER possibly do such a thing, it will still be worried about. So the conversation would have to be 1 on 1 and more than guaranteed that what is said doesn't leave the 'group' unless they are fine with it anyway. If they say something and you think you understand, you don't, use that as a safety rule. Be ABSOLUTELY certain you understand what ever point they try to make, or it will be a lot of "No, uh..." then the conversation will drag out and he/she will start to doubt it's effectiveness. What else... Let them talk and don't answer any questions that aren't asked. Be patient, and at the end of their talking make absolutely sure that they have no more questions, comments, or concerns. Beyond that just give the best advice you can, if they don't accept it ask them what they would want from the situation and help them see a way to get there or something.

If anything is not clear I'd be glad to help, this is a touchy situation and should in no way be taken lightly. You are disarming a bomb.
