Well, I think the vikings were portrayed as worse than they actually were. I would have thought that strong, handsome, blonde-haired and blue eyed men wouldn't need to force women to "do rudes" with them, and most British people hate immigrants, so they blamed the Vikings for the laying waste to the towns and villages, which was probably the work of Brits as well as the immigrants.
