Pronouns: Well it shouldn't really be that complicated if you go over my post history but then... why are you searching through my post history? Don't you think you are over complicating something as simple as just referring to me? Why are you like this? Is it just out of boredom? Does your religion require it? You could just assume them and skip all this paragraph, don't worry an eldritch horror won't appear out of nowhere to eat you (or me for that matter) if you get this wrong, the worst that can happen is I ignore you and even in that case you can try again! There shouldn't be that many options anyway so if you get it wrong the first time try again and again. Bottom line is: you just lost a bunch of time reading this paragraph for something as trivial as figuring out how to refer to me when you could just have deduced it which should make you think your life choices so far.

 its funny cause 'tis a music thread

about Vrai's list: woah, i didnt expect such an eclectic collection :) there are some pretty good and pretty bad things in there. I used to listen some of those, like Metallica, Nirvana, Megadeth, Rammstein, SOAD, Bush, P.O.D., Slipknot, Green Day(uh-oh, yes, i regret it  ), QotSA, RHCP.. (i don't really like these now, but a few of Vrai's stuff are mentioned in the lists below)

anyway, since Vrai started the long list thing, i cant help it: (sorry but i'm a last.fm geek, or whatever you call it, i love music charts/lists. [my profile])

Below is just a time based chart of my overall last.fm stats (meaning the top of what i've been listening to on my computer since september 2007)
(The problem with last.fm is that it generates charts based on how many times you've played a song from an artist, and it doesn't consider how long the song is. I listen to songs that vary in length, from 1 min. to 20-30 min, sometimes even 1 hour. The time based chart aims to correct the errors of the last.fm system)
Image

Anyway, screw last.fm, it fails to list my favorites so i'll list them myself here (in no particular order): (well, the first 4 are really uber alles :D )

Kayo Dot

Secret Chiefs 3
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Gregor Samsa

Harvestman
Neurosis
Scott Kelly

I would just like to point out, since this is a music thread, that "Owl City" is just one dude that plays instruments, and is not a city of owls as the name would imply. Be forewarned.

And what's with all of this modern rock eletronica house smashup pop blech? Does no one listen to classic rock anymore? Journey? The Who? Led Zepplin? Eagles? Blood Sweat & Tears? The Beatles??? I know I'm an old man, but surely there are others that enjoy these timeless artists....

Timeless artists and classics...

Actually, that would make me even "older", considering that my favorite genre (and my deepest passion) is classical music.

that is admirable.
one of my favorite "genres" is hungarian folk, which is just as timeless :) (and by folk i don't mean "world music" played by modern artists, but the actual heritage music, with the dances and all the fun.)

Interesting. That would certainly put you in a rare breed. But also interesting that it is associated with "older" people. I like jazz a lot, and jazz is suffering the same fate that classical music did in the 50s and 60s - being perceived as a "haute" form of music, only for the snobbish/high class. When in reality, a cool jazz groove is just fun to listen too. Classical is much the same way. But I think it has started to make a comeback, maybe? Composers like Philip Glass that are still out there producing music. You probably know more about modern composers than I do.

So a couple of years ago I was vacationing in Puerto Rico. I met up with a bunch of friends of friends, and we were staying at this beach house. Well, one night, we wandered over to a nearby bar, and they had this awesome local band playing spanish folk music (the heritage kind you're talking about) with all different kind of cool drums and unique instruments and all of the local people just dancing and having a great time. Man, it was awesome. I agree, that sort of music - no matter what your heritage - is really cool. And I think it's cool to be an "outsider" and get to experience it.

tl;dr - Thinger lies, jazz is snappy, and folk is cool.
