You gain nothing from doing nothing. Wanting to preserve the friendship you have with her is kind of a fallacy, in my experience. Friends come and go in life. The people you know now will likely not be the people you know in college, and those people in college will likely not be the people you hang out with after graduation. So don't worry about losing a friend, focus on the opportunity to gain a girlfriend. If she is interested in you, your friendship should move to the next level. If she truly isn't interested in you, then you should move on.

Either way you won't know unless you talk about it with her.

Here's the way I would start the conversation with her: "Hey, I'm getting some mixed signals from you. In the past we've talked about how I'm interested in you and would like to take our friendship to another level, and that is still true today. So if you're interested in that also, that's cool, but if not, that's okay, too. I don't want to ruin the friendship we already have, but if it could be more, I think that would be great." And then let the situation play out as it may.

Don't be too concerned about the outcome. Sometimes in life you get what you want, sometimes you don't. But I've found most often life gives you something you didn't even know you needed at a time you weren't expecting it.

To quote a famous philosiphizer: "You can't always get what you want / But if you try sometimes / You might just find / You get what you need."

But worst of all is the regret you will live with if you don't at least try.

ps. it's damn hot here nowadays, so i have to leave the window open and these things come in. They don't understand I haven't invited them. How to politely tell them they are not invited?

I thought you were a submarine? Why on earth do you own a house and how do bugs get in?

Since this thread is entitled the "ASDF Help Thread", I'll bring my inquisitions here. Being new, and having just joined a few moments ago, I have a few questions regarding the forum.

Necroposting, of course, can automatically be assumed as something to avoid. However, there are some topics, I notice, that are a bit old. If I have intentions of posting or commenting stemming from the original topic, is it alright to revive a supposedly "dead" thread? If not, what counts as "dead"?

See, from the rather quick moving forum I have lurked around since I was very young, even something like twenty days is the slightest bit out of date.

Also, what references are allowed, or are appropriate? Of course, I have no intentions of spewing anything obscene or vulgar, but these are just some general questions that I have. I'm also curious of how often memes are mentioned. Not that I'm that guy. >.>

But, eh, greetings to all. I will hopefully be seeing you all around.

Hello and welcome :)
you seem to be a very careful forumer! No need to worry so much, noone is gonna bite your head off here :)

Unfortunately we aren't a very active community these days (months?), but we used to be. That's why you can see threads on the first page that are a bit old..
don't worry about necroposting, just don't dig up threads from the abyss beyond the first/second pages..
But since you're so careful, i'll warn you that we usually derail topics quite quickly, and therefore when replying to threads, it generally doesn't make sense to reply to the OP.. but there may be exceptions, of course.

I don't know what you mean by "references".. but in any case, we're most definitely not a strictly moderated forum. Any and all moderation is done in order to keep the peace :) so just chill, and have fun. We do have a set of guidelines laid out in the welcoming topic, and it does warn against excessive swearing, but we really don't bite.
Cheers!

Just reply to everything with "That's what she said!!" and you will ingratiate yourself with the ASDF community.

I have a problem. My driver's ed lady won't call me to take me driving! It's been like 3 weeks...well, my question was how long did it take for you guys to get called to go drive? Just wondering so I can get an idea of the average time it took to get called.
Chef don't judge.

It must work differently in different parts of the world. I got my drivers license in New York State. Driver's Ed. isn't required there. Basically you take a 5 question test and they give you a learner's permit, then you practice, then you sign up for a test appointment. So no one had to call me, I had to set the appointment myself. There was a 4-5 week lead time, though.

I had this really mean looking old lady do my driver's test. I was sooooo nervous. But she passed me. So I guess she wasn't that mean.

Now, in California, when I moved there, I already had a drivers license, but still had to take this 30 question test to get a California license. The est had all of these weird questions on it, like, "Which of the following statements is correct about smoking in a car with a baby riding in the back seat?" (smoking in a car? really?) and really specific stuff like that. After driving for many years I didn't study because I thought I knew all there was to know about driving. So I totally thought I failed that test, too! But I didn't.

And that concludes the "History of Driving Tests" a short story by Assdef. Have a great day!

5 question test?! oh, i forgot you guys don't have traffic signs with actual signs on them, every sign has text on it, right?
i mean, i don't know anything about driving tests other than they are definitely not 5 question tests over here. You have to know a lot of theory too (like imagine a drawing with a traffic scenario, you have to tell which car will do what and how will the pedestrian survive etc), it's not enough to be able to not crash the car. And what about the first aid test?

Trust me, I was as shocked as you when I learned it was a 5 question test. It was a long time ago and I don't remember the questions, but I do remember the test took me all of 5 minutes to complete and I got 100%. After I did the in-car driving test with the old lady I thought I had to go back to the office and take a longer theory test, but she told me, "Nope! You're done!" God Bless America - answer five questions, pay $40, and you can drive a car.

The California test was much, much harder, and I think I missed 3 of 30 questions (you can miss up to 6 and still pass).

No first aid. No theory. And nothing really on pedestrians (we don't have as many pedestrians/bikes on the road as they do in most European countries).

My drivers ed. class was taken as a high school class. There was a schedule for driving with the teacher, and both a written (more than 5 questions, but I remember them being at least mostly multiple choice) and a driving test. Both were pretty easy to pass.

Then I came to California, and had a similar situation to assdef's.
