I didn't start driving alone until I was 18 because the state laws require me to pay almost $50 just to go from a permit to a restricted license where I can only drive on certain roads during certain hours.

I think the test here was 20 questions and you were only allowed 3 wrong, but they were about as difficult as, "hurr durr what is the big red octogon?" The driving test consisted of me driving the man around the block, making a 3-point-turn, and parking, all while he texted his wife about what they wanted to do for dinner. I passed.

EDIT:

I forgot what I was going to ask here. I tutor at my college and make money off of it, and I'm going to be doing it pretty much all day this summer because me and one other girl are qualified to tutor enough subjects that they're giving us complete control over the entire operation for a few months. Does anyone have any good english websites for grammar/citations/essay tips/etc. bookmarked away somewhere? I hit a wall with some of these people (I've been asked what an adjective is by three different students) and sometimes online stuff helps me get through to them, especially the deaf ones.

Blech. I taught SAT prep to high school kids for about a year and a half and hated it. Little brats never paid attention! An old, bearded man waving his index finger at you while slightly shaking his cane and muttering something.

Sorry to say I don't have any specific Web sites, other than to Google "Elementary School Grammar Games" and I'm sure something of interest will pop up.

I'm in high school but I still am amazed at how much people try and get good grades and pass and are stupid and I don't try and get bad grades on everything but tests and fail and I think I'm pretty smart.

Adjectives describe a noun or pronoun. At least, that's the basic definition.

For essay writing tips, how to do citations, etc., I use The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). Looks like they have things for English as a Second Language, too.

Hope it helps.

Hey, I'm new to asdf. But that's not the point. I need help with some issues going on at home. I'm kind of a "renegade" as my egotistical, religious zealots of parents would call me. I've been a really firm believer since I could remember, but a couple months ago I read a forum post somewhere about which religion is most likely true, which after reading, completely broke my faith. realizing that there might not be a heaven, and that I'm wasting my life trying to be "good" by staying within the boundaries of the social and religious constructs of my society, I started to really live life and be myself. I started standing up for myself, being more confident and crazy with girls, started to express my truly honest opinions, and I tend to smoke a whole lot of weed now. I even occasionally trip on mushrooms. Basically, I'm living a very rockstar-esqué life right now, and I'm loving it. But my parents do not care for it. It all started when I got caught trying to sneak out of my house a couple weeks ago to hang out with this girl I had been talking to. My parents lost a little faith in me, but they just shrugged it off as a fluke. (I've always been the perfect, goody two shoes kid) Next, I came home drunk from a party not too long ago. Now, this time they were mad. And worried. I got grounded for around a week. Now, just recently me and my buddies got caught downstairs smoking some pot, and that's when my parents lost hope. Now, they're drug testing me, not letting me stay out long, and have basically installed a massively fascist-style ruling in the house. Now that all my freedoms have been kind of stripped from me, and my parents aren't allowing me to be myself at all, I'm considering either running away or standing straight up to them and telling them that this is my life style. What should I do, in you guys' opinion?
Thank you

Welcome to the ASDForums™!

You left out some very important information, how old are you?

I'm 14. I know this is the normal age for kids to rebel and such, but I feel like this is bigger than some normal teen rebellion, you know?

SHAI, yer doin it wrong:

"Welcome to the ASDF Forums! ASDF will take care of you now!!"

And, to mr. toast-ghost (I love the rhyming handle), have you given any thought to your parent's perspective on the situation? Here is there model citizen kid who suddenly starts breaking rules, breaking the law, making what to some might be judged as poor life decisions. How would you react?

I am an old man, but I was a teenager once An old, bearded man waving his index finger at you while slightly shaking his cane and muttering something., and I know nothing I say in this short response will mean much of anything to you, because you're 14 and at that age to you old people are stupid and don't know what they're taking about. And I agree with you that your mission in life right now is to find out who you are and what you want to do. When you combine trying to figure all of that out with the rush of hormones galloping through your body, it makes for a fun, interesting, and sometimes scary experience. I don't envy you. But all I'll ask is that you think about it from your parents' perspective - are they doing what they're doing because they hate you and think you're a horrible human being? Or are they concerned about you and doing what they think is right, based on what their parents taught them, in the hopes that you'll grow into a better life than what they had?

There's nothing wrong with rebelling. Just don't be a jerk and do something you might really regret later on. Religious or not, isn't that the decent thing to do?

Yeah, you're right, I shouldn't be acting as hostile. They're just doing their jobs. I think I'm just mad that society encourages us to be ourselves, but the minute we stray outside of the lines we're deemed weirdos or losers or criminals. It's not really their fault that they're mad at me, because it's the morals they've been raised on. But I've never really respected my parents due to how they handle certain situations sometimes (my dad uses violence and shouting, my mom uses bratty highschool girl kind of "techniques") I think that's the reason the real me has decided to do quite the opposite of a whole lot of their teachings. However, I still don't agree with them. I still think the things I'm doing are fine, and they're (and I hate to sound like the typical stoner stereotype here) just kind of brainwashed. Brainwashed into not thinking for themselves, but going along with the rules that have already been set up. In a way, losing respect for them was a great thing for me because it allowed me to be rid of the rules that I would've blindly followed, and instead seek out the rules that I honestly and personally thought were right. But anyways, I shouldn't be holding any of this against them. Thank you for that. Looking back, I was acting kind of jerky
Now, the only thing left is what to do? Should I tell them that I disagree with the way they're raising me, and that I want to live according to myself? Should I run away? Should I just bite the bullet until I'm 18?

I don't think you have to live in absolutes. It isn't one or the other. Tone it down a little. You can have fun without relying on drugs and alcohol and defying your parents completely. I know I sound like a square, but drugs and alcohol shouldn't define who you are.

But, I don't think you have to follow your parents' religion. If you don't believe in God, then don't believe in God. Find whatever other faith or healthy outlet you need to feel comfortable with yourself. As long as it isn't illegal. Don't do something to screw up your life at age 14. You can take risks and have fun without doing things seriously illegal that might put you in jail. That shit stays with you forever. No one ever regrets that time they *didn't* smoke pot - it's always that time they did smoke and got arrested they regret.

Certainly don't run away. Running from your problems is likely the most immature thing anyone can do. I might suggest you have a serious talk with your parents about what you're doing and why you're doing it - but you need to take emotion out of the equation, and don't get upset with them with how they react. If you think their reaction might be more of the same sort of forcing of their beliefs on you (i.e., they send you to some Christian conversion therapy that forces you to accept Christian teachings, or some wackadoo thing like that) then it might just be best to leave it alone. The challenge that comes with dealing with religious "zealots" is that you're never going to do or say anything to convince them their beliefs might be wrong, and they're almost always going to impose their beliefs on other people. I'm speaking, of course, in very generalized, stereotypical terms - your parents might be different - but it's a situation you have to evaluate yourself and with the help of others (can other family like aunts/uncles/grandparents/cousins provide another viewpoint?). There is no easy answer here, unfortunately.

Also keep in mind you're 14 and in 3-4 years your entire outlook on yourself and your life will likely change completely, and then 4-5 years after that when you're in your early twenties your entire outlook on yourself and your life will likely change completely, and then in 8-9 years after that when you're in your early thirties your entire outlook on yourself and your life will likely be completely different again, and so on, and so on, and so on. I know 50+ year old people who still don't know what they want out of life, so don't feel like you have to figure that all out right now.

In summary, my advice would be: do what you think is right to be yourself, be nice about it, and don't take any stupid illegal risks that might compromise your future. I think if anyone follows that, in general, it will steer you towards living a good life.

Keep in mind, what do the drugs get you? The alcohol? And remember to stay on here. I can't lose one of the only RPers on here when there are only about 5 left.

Hey man. 10 pages isn't that much. And you already have 3 done. That only means 7 pages. Seven pages is nothing. You could do it last minute if you had to. But you're not. Because you're going to right some killer awesome fantastic last 7 pages and it will be spectacular. Now go write those 7 pages.

7 is almost 6 which is almost 5 which is almost 4 which is almost 3 which is almost 2 which is almost 1 which is almost 0 so you're almost done!
But seriously, get off the internet (unless research) and write it. Don't let anything distract you. In this rare occasion you are allowed to close the ASDF tab. And heed Thinger's killer awesome fantastic advice.
