PC set up. also, first new thread in forever!
hey asdfers,
i am building a custom pc and i was just curious what your personal computation wizard box was filled with. i decided on going with an AMD processor instead of an intel i series. they are just too expensive. AMD has pretty powerful CPU options for much cheaper. all that said the processor was the most expensive part of the build. haha.
only thing really special is that im going to be getting my sapphire x260 GPUs. yeah they are not high end, but im gonna use TWO of them! muhaha.
basically i have never done a dual GPU build before and im wondering if anyone here has ever done it. im curious what the power consumption will be. i have a 750w evga PSU and im hoping that will be enough juice, but if i have to ill upgrade.
just wanted to run this by some of you, iirc some here are pretty avid gamers. so post your builds and lets chat. post pics if you got anything really shiney!
oh and whats your most played game atm? im getting back heavy into Eve Online. i also frequent Kerbal Space Program pretty often, im basically a rocket scientist.

oh, KSP is my favorite! I also still play unreal tournament 2004 when I want to shoot people in the face, there are still a few active servers.
My pc is about 3 and a half years old, and the biggest issue I'm having is that having a slow hard drive is annoying.
yeah I also have a cost-effective AMD solution, even though most of what my extensive architecture courses taught me says intel is simply better I have a phenom II X4 970 BE (3.5Ghz), I haven't overclocked yet.
by sapphire x260 you mean this one? That looks pretty good. About the power thing, I recommend looking it up or asking around on forums, make sure you have enough power for two of those.
My vga is considered way outdated, but it still runs most games I want to play pretty well. It's a singular sapphire hd6870. It screamed and suffered under Crysis 3, but I don't consider that game anything more than a benchmark
Lotsa RAM is good to have.
I never took a pic of my build, but I have a beast of a heatsink so it looks a bit fancy.

All I'm hearing is:
Person 1: "Nerd nerd nerd, nerd nerd nerd nerd nerd, nerd. Nerd nerd nerd nerd nerd?"
Person 2: "Geek geek geek! Geek geek, geek geek. Geek geek geek geek, geek geek geek geek."

750 should be more than enough, just make sure you have the correct cables
I'm running a dual set of Radeon 5700 series, kinda outdated but can handle many things at a high graphics with two of them. I think I have a 700w PSU, or something around that, and it's way more than what is actually needed.
KSP is awesome, but I haven't played it in a while. Currently gaming Valkyria Chronicles whenever I have the chance, which is not often.

Your computer sounds like a magical device. Although I'm on the same laptop I was posting on when I first joined asdf so there are some toasters that probably run things better than my computer.

there might even be toasters that can't toast as well as your computer!

It has been surgically adjusted several times.Ml08180 wrote:Your computer sounds like a magical device. Although I'm on the same laptop I was posting on when I first joined asdf so there are some toasters that probably run things better than my computer.

it's almost 2 weeks old. Basically old enough to learn that life isn't fair and full of meaningless crap.
Re: PC set up. also, first new thread in forever!
Recently upgraded my old computer. Replaced graphic card, HDD for SSD and bought more ram. My conslusion is that with good graphics and lot of ram even old PC can work as a charm.

Welcome!
I still don't trust SSDs, I think they are black magic.

SSDs are amazing they are definitely worth it especially with the drops in prices in the last few years 10/10 would sell my soul for one again
Re: PC set up. also, first new thread in forever!
I put an SSD in my laptop about a year ago and it's fixed a lot of the problems. It's still about as slow as a quadriplegic sloth if I open more than one thing at a time, but that one thing runs wonderfully.

I knew it! You all work for the NSA! Putting your Super Secret Devices into your computers!!
ABSOLUTELY! TRUST NO ONE.atomtengeralattjaro wrote:I still don't trust SSDs, I think they are black magic.

Ha! Like I'm going to download something that someone from the NSA recommends.
