Squirtle is cute and water is one of the most useful types. In the generations Charmander was a starter he had good stats for a special sweeper and Squirtle had equally good stats for a tank. They don't have the best move pools but Charmander has TMs and Squirtle has Surf. Bulbasaur had well rounded stats which made him easier for beginner players, but a terrible move pool with few ways to make it up. The only build I could think for him that was useful was Sunny Day/Solarbeam/Synthesis so that he had the power and health to be a reasonable tank[/nerdbabble]
