I'm pretty sure it is illegal to let your dog run around in the middle of the street.

Where I live, it is. People will sometimes complain on our neighborhood Facebook group (because of course we have one) about dogs running around in the street, and almost hitting them because they run in front of cars, etc. After a few comments of people not caring or thinking it's fine, I looked up the city ordinances. Dogs at large (An animal at large is defined as an unrestrained domesticated animal outside of its owners' property) are specifically mentioned to be unlawful.

I kept the information to myself, to avoid Facebook drama, but if I ever find the need to complain about it, I at least know that I have a legal basis for my complaint.
