First night out in the wild.

Post by Greyson » Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:53 pm

While Dennings was out collecting firewood with Schmidt, Aydin was preparing fire pit. He dug out a square in the ground and added two small tunnels on the side of it for a proper airflow. He then gathered some grass from the riverbed, dried it in his with the help of his blue-palm-fire, and started filling the bottom of the pit with it. He knew he couldn't start the fire yet anyways because he needed the firewood so he grabbed some incense from his rucksack, put it between his lips and lit the tip with a snap of his fingers.
"Keeps the bugs away," he said to a seemingly curious Sophia. "The lack of monsters is... unnerving. The first time that I'm not feeling like a hunter out here, but rather like prey. We need to be on the lookout if we want to keep the upper hand I guess." Sophia grinned, shook her head and proceeded with putting up her tent.

While the sun was slowly setting, Aydin set down his equipment next to his tent, grabbed his weapon and shield and at down on a log and looked at the river. "I better make some adjustments to my sword while I'm out here," he thought.
While his sword was rather thin while in this form, Aydin could readjust the frame so it was more versatile as a sword. It did sacrifice the ability to switch to spear mode, but it allowed him to combine it with his sharp-edged shield to function as a battleax, almost like some Hunters could do with their "Charge Blades", rare technoswords that stored kinetic energy from attacks to release it in powerful explosions. Aydin's sword was not capable of doing that though, he always wanted to get one of those, but he never could afford one because of their rarity.

When Dennings returned with enough firewood to last through the night, Aydin stacked it in a small square tower in the firepit and lit the dried grass with his flat hand. All he could do now, before exclaiming that he would take first watch tonight, was to start preparing some of the food for the group.

Baled informed Martin of his discovery and his talk with Roland, Martin nodded in understanding the severity, Baled would tell them in the morning, he didn't want them to be worried tonight... they'd get no sleep.
Martin came over as he saw Aydin preparing a fire, he offered assistance, but wouldn't wait for conformation, he lit the fire very high and hot, he knew this would normally attract monsters but informed Aydin none would be showing up. He then used his limited earth magic as a forge mage to craft a ceramic pan from a clay deposit nearby, he quickly motioned together some sticks and made a basic oven to put food together on, and cook it too.
He left Aydin to do the cooking, everything he and his father ever made came out scorched. And charred food was an acquired taste, unless you were a forge mage, a love of burning came with the package (not an insane one though, that would be for a pyromaniac, which is a pyromancer mixed with a lunar-mage's corrupted and dark mind-breaching touch...)
Martin meanwhile hand-scorched some of his own food he'd brought along, Forge mages tended to have a fairly large appetite.. Probably from their dwarven origins far back in Ancient Times, before the Age of Humans...

Baled did what he could, he set up some more sentinels to guard from monsters, not too many to give Aydin, who he strongly assumed would offer the first guard for the night to not have a job for the night, or embarrass him for offering (he wasn't sure if someone as seemingly cool as Aydin could get embarrassed, but every precaution is taken with Baled when he can) but enough to make it that he wouldn't be doing much besides watching for failures in the posts
Of course Baled knew this task was fairly pointless, no monsters were around, and even if some rushed in the lack of leylines would surely drive them away, but the smell of easy prey might bring them back..

Baled also enchanted the sentinels with some sleep magic, not enough to make someone unwilling get knocked out, but plenty to help anyone struggling through the insomnia...He also cast a snore-mute and a smell-mute over the campsite, strong enough to ward off a normal beast with a hightened sense of sound or smell, but it could still be seen through.. or Baled supposed it could still be heard or smelled through.. illusions were weird, especially sensory ones rather than mentally-impairing ones... god Baled knew a few spells he didn't like to accept he had put the time into learning, he didn't think he could ever cast something so... ruthless on someone...

Baled was having a hard time sleeping now, so he laid down and let the sleep spell do it's course (after dinner of course), he went to sleep thinking of his favorite tail from the Legend Times (between Age of Humans and Ancient Times), the story of Ba-Led, the legend he was named after...

Baled sleeps.

First night out in the wild - Firewatch

Post by Greyson » Sun Apr 15, 2018 1:11 am

Aydin was seemingly confused when Martin stepped in and cast a flame spell at the small fire he had already started and turned it almost into a small bonfire. "So much for conserving the firewood, until I'm done preparing the soup," he thought.

When he turned around to get his steel cooking pot and the seasoning from his backpack, he noticed that Baled had started creating cooking tools from the environment. "Mages." he thought, "no respect for the basic way of things... Oh well, at least I won't have to wash out my gear then. He means well after all."

Aydin was hesitant to work with Baled magical cooking utensils but he figured that there was no point in arguing about things like that. "Last thing we need out here is us arguing about camping basics." he thought. He went ahead and prepared a meat and vegetable stew, which was the Vanguards specialty and one of the first outdoor recipes they learn, and put the cooking pot next to the flame to let it simmer.

While the stew was cooking, Aydin noticed that Baled was setting-up wards, that should protect the camp from monsters; Sophia was setting up her hammock in between some trees near the river; Denning was hanging out with Hans, Zimmer and their wolf, still trying to persuade them to allow him to pet it.

He couldn't see Jacob and Sir Roland, but they probably were around, and even if not, they could handle themselves, he thought.
Schmidt was busy with his mortar and pestle in his well-made self-build lean-to, grinding down some of the herbs and other plants he collected. Aydin could tell from the smell that he was adding sulfur and saltpeter. From that alone, Aydin figured that he must be building some kind of bombs. "That explains why he's sitting so far away from the fire."

Aydin proceeded to watch his stew (and to add some spices during the cooking procedure). When it was done, he called everyone over and told them to bring their field cutlery along. He prepared a ladle, stirred the stew, and gave everyone with a field cutlery some of the stew. "We'll need a firewatch tonight. To make sure the fire keeps burning. I'm going to do first watch and I can go for about 4 hours before I want to get some rest too, so if one of you would take over a shift as well, then that would be incredibly nice of you. Not forcing anyone of course."

The sun had already gone down, and the moon was the only giving off so much light. Aydin was glad that he put up some standing torches around the camp. It gave the team the advantage of actually being able to see things in and around the camp without stumbling over each other.

((To be clear, Martin set up the fire , and Baled did the other stuff..))

Martin listened to Aydin address everyone, he decided not to embarrass Aydin by telling him the fire would not be going out at all, probably not for weeks, years if Martin checked it every couple of months... Forgefire is more controlled than a regular fire...

Martin told Baled about this, and he sneakily cast a spell on the fire by making it give off insomnia pheromones, he took careful work to make sure these would not fight with the sentinels he had set up...

Once he was done, him and Martin shared a knowing moment that one of them would watch for their group, as to look useful, but it would not be Baled... Baled would be 10x more useful asleep.. Baled cast himself asleep with a learning spell, and Martin offered to take the shift after Aydin. He slept down and fell asleep, awakening only when the fire became unattended (even before Aydin would awaken him, Martin was connected to his fire and the second someone left their post, Martin would awaken fully sleeped and ready.)

(just watch it guys....one of the rules of this stuff is.....if someone makes it/ does it first.....you cant just ignore it and do it yourself or change it.....that stuff causes conflicts between players......talking from experience....the fire is a VERY small part of this story....so dont get hung up on that stuff.....thats all,..... IDC at all lol so dont let lil things bother u guys either.....and just remember those rules posted and the brief run down i stickyed at the top..reread if yah gotta)

Sir Roland had stood looking in the direction of their destination with Jacob beside him for sometime out on the far edge of the camp......he almost seemed to lose himself standing there....time flew by un aware to him......Jacob even told him he would be back he wanted to go scout a head and scavenge the woods a bit.....Jacob was a lil upset about the lack of animals......because thats.....kinda what he was banking on for his food source.....with his hightened sight and ears and the fact he doesnt have to hide his full speed while out alone scouting....he ventured much further than those gathering wood or the patrol sentinels would go.....Jacob found no animals....not even small mice or rabbits....or any other weird lil creatures.....he had to settle for berries a few nuts and the big ripe fruits.....look like pineapples with a purple hue....you dont need to open it....Jacob just takes big ole bites.....he was gone for awhile and came back to a setup camp....it was easily spotted, stood out and bright as hell......Jacob figured he would have to let Roland know to teach them how to hide their camp better.....but figured it need not be worried about tonight.....they are still to close to Stalwart and it seems the creatures in this area have a atleast a day or twos march worth ahead of Roland and Jacobs team......

Roland never took his armor off.....and continued to just stand looking out over the Jungle.......obviously something big on his mind.....after what seemed like hours.....he takes a deep breath....stretches.....and turns to look at the camp....he was almost surprised that it was setup so fast.......then realizing he had probably been just standing there for quite a large amount of time.....he pulled out the charm hanging around his neck....very magical as well.....Roland is still not sure what all it did.....but he know he felt at peace and calm....and all fear was gone from wearing it.......he knew Baled father had one exactly the same.......he had been spending this time trying to remember back to all those years ago.....what else was said about these charms.....he knew the two charms were connected.....but damn he couldnt remember how to activate or call on its power....."there was a damn word i had to say.....what was it?......or was it a phrase???....bah!" he put it back under his shirt and armor and walked back to the camp....and just sat quietly down by the fire.....he grabs some of the prepared food and gets a few of his trail rations out.....he ate for awhile and after eating.....Roland reached into his bag and pulled out a wooden flute of some sort......and began to just play a song from his Hunter days.....the sound soft and soothing.....the melody of the song sounding like almost a soft sad love ballad.....

Jacob had ate out in the Wild Lands.....so when he returned he found Roland and mentioned something about the blatantly obvious camp.....and then went to the hunter Aydin and informed him he would be taking last watch and that even though everyone was still up and eating....he was going to go ahead and get some sleep.......and everyone then watches him walk out of the camp.....a few yards into the jungle....jumps up and climbs a tree......a thought came to Jacobs mind as he found a big split branch to lay between......wow.....its been how many years since ive had to sleep high up in a tree to escape predators?...

((I don't know what happened, could someone explain to me what was changed? (If i did something wrong i aplogize, i did not mean to)))
Four hours after everyone had gone to sleep, Martin awoke to take his position at guard, he thanked Aydin for taking the first guard and took his scheduled position as second.
Nobody had offered to take third guard, so he would likely be tackling 8 hours. Wouldn't be too hard with all the resting spells around the place. He'd still get some sleep in the end. Martin assumed roland might have taken third guard but he had been oddly silent and looked like he was off and away from the campsite. Martin didn't blame him, figured it was no big deal. None of the other guys would have likely offered anything nice, they all kind of seemed like jerks, or maybe just less chivalrous. That sophie girl though, Martin did like her a fair bit... "God, i'm an idiot" he thought, "don't need that, i'm on a mission here" he thought, than laughed that he was even having this conversation with himself. For all he knew she was probably awake watching from the trees, seemed like something she would do.

Martin slumped down and half-closed his eyes, staying aware, but letting the sleep wards do their restful work.
Martin will take the next 8 hours unless anyone awaken to relieve him from his duties

(((we past it dont worry about it....i think all that happened is yah skimmed and missed a small detail....its days ago at this point lol so no worries....sorry for my gaps in posts)))
(also jacob took last watch lol....try not to skim :P)

"""""Jacob had ate out in the Wild Lands.....so when he returned he found Roland and mentioned something about the blatantly obvious camp.....and then went to the hunter Aydin and informed him he would be taking last watch and that even though everyone was still up and eating....he was going to go ahead and get some sleep.......and everyone then watches him walk out of the camp.....a few yards into the jungle....jumps up and climbs a tree......a thought came to Jacobs mind as he found a big split branch to lay between......wow.....its been how many years since ive had to sleep high up in a tree to escape predators?..."""""

after about 8 hours of sleep Jacob awoke to his shift....stars bright in the sky and the fire still roaring......he yawned a bit and quietly made his way back into the camp.....to place his hand on Martins shoulder......he probably startled Martin a bit.....it seemed as if Martin wasn't even aware that he was the one covering last shift.....Jacob smiled a toothy smile....and just told him to relax....and go find himself some sleep.....Jacob sat at the fire for a bit...warming himself and poking at it......the after a bit....he stood and began to walk the camp.....he was really quiet......only trained ears would be able to pick his foot falls out from the other night sounds.....

The entire night passes with no real problems other than Sophia finally having enough of Schmidts snoring.....he had put his tent and such a lil to close to hers, unusual, and the sound dampeners did nothing for that horrid sound with her being that close.......she got up half way though Jacobs shift.....walked over......and gave Schmidt a swift KICK.....who then stopped snoring....for a bit.....and just rolled over.....guy slept like a rock.....she immediately spotted Jacob in his tree....waved at him....and made her way to the fire.

Martin was relieved of his shift, it was true he had been unaware of Jacob taking last shift, he had just assumed... that things would continue as they were, he kind of didn't realize Jacob had said anything, in fact he was unsure what anybody had been saying for a while now...

"oh man," martin thought, "life is but a dream" he said, closing his eyes. He noticed the air was getting thicker along the campsite, and the sky was turning a nice pleasant pink color.. 'oh sunrise,' he thought but knew it absolutely was not, there were still 4 hours left.

Martins eyes closed and he had wild dreams where he was confused and saw everyone else in his campsite also confused.. People were acting as they would in real life.. except Schmidt, he was being a bit creepy.. what a odd guy.

"How long until i wake up" martin thought struggling immensely to roll over, or even to breathe, "oh don't worry about that.." a void told him..

'WHAT THE HELL' Martin screamed, shooting up in bed, everyone around him were suffocating, and the air had been turned a lush, fat purple. his eyes remained closed, sealed shut... Martin was terrified, but tried to keep focus, he screamed for help but his voice did not turn on, and the whimper crackle that escaped was silenced by force. He ran to Baled, who looked like death, he shook him and yelled. He could not wake him up. Goddammit.. Martin forged a magnet which slowly rotted, as if the mana that had forged it was being consumed into a sleep sleep sleep sleep

martin was tired again, and forgot his worries.. "no..." he thought dreamily,"i have to get up"

Martin shot up and forged a hot magnet with all his power, it cooled at a rate that no forge ever should... he realised there was dampening magic around him, he was not cold so it was not hydro-based.. or glacial.. he could hardily think all he knew to do was to burn Baled. He burned his arm with the searing magnet, putting the rest of the mana available to the suffocating camp into it. Baled awoke instantly, and as if time had replayed itself (though this had nothing to do with chronomancy, to be clear) the air was sucked into Baleds upturned eyelids and the air returned to normal, and all the wards and sleeping wards erupted, the air was cold, brisk and everyone was no longer tired from chemicals, and the cold air bit at them hard enough to wake most people up just by instinct (as to not freeze to death in sleep)

everyone had recovered, as Baled had taken the blunt force. Baled looked at martin and cried out "she's too strong" and fainted. He was stone cold and stone hard. Martin felt the mana being restored to the area, and tried to burn him again, but could not.

"WHO IS SHE?" he yelled, holding back tears.. but he knew the answer. All this time he had known. There was someone who was trying to stop them from arriving to her...

Martin knew know the person they were dealing with were over all mystics, and maybe even had multiple mancies. She had been a confirmed lunar mage, and a confirmed dream mage... what else? Martin stood shakily and realised it was now a few hours before noon, the day had faded away while nobody was able to stop it.

Martin stood and looked around, everyone was fine, and some even looked at Baled worriedly. Martin checked for a pulse as he knew how to do it. He was greeted by an utterly relieving and utterly terrifying pulse that sounded more like a devil whispering curses from inside his veins. Baled was comatose once again.

Martin stood up and went to tell Roland everything he knew, keeping near his friend.

Martin was thoroughly frightened

A (blue) flame in the dark.

Post by Greyson » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:18 pm

After Aydin was relieved of the watch by Martin, he headed straight for his tent. A few steps away from it though, he decided to rest near the river.
The air was much cooler near the water, and Aydin enjoyed cooling down after sitting by the fire for hours. He took a few more steps forward and noticed a slight change in his left arm. The shard stopped responding to Baleds wards. "I wonder if I'm out of the spell's area. Fine by me, I could do without that constant vibrating in my arm."

He grabbed some more incense from his rucksack and put it between his lips. Then he stuck his sword into the ground, leaned his shield against it, and put his rucksack down next to it. He sat down leaning on his shield, looking at the calm river just flowing undisturbed. He put his left index finger and thumb on the tip of the incense and thought of flame sparks. This was enough to create a small blue spark between his fingers and lit the incense. He didn't inhale it or anything but rather had it between his lips so he always had it with him when walking around.

It might have been dangerous to sleep outside of the magical wards, but Aydin didn't trust magical wards, to begin with. With the lack of magical pressure, Aydin fell asleep rather quickly.

---

When he woke up he was all alone in the darkness. "This can't be right..." he said, trying to find his bearing. He took a few careful steps forward and noticed that the ground must be solid stone but when he lit up a flame in his left palm he noticed that he was in a complete void. He could see nothing but himself. "What is going on here?" he asked himself, seemingly startled.
A cold feeling overcame him when he heard a female voice speaking to him.
"You won't stop me. Return home or suffer."
Aydin was looking around to figure out where the voice came from but it seemed to come from his own head. Then he noticed pairs of glowing red eyes coming out of nowhere quickly surrounding him, even converging on him. When they came closer, Aydin noticed that they were giant wolves.

He grabbed his sword and they started charging. Aydin fought off 4 or 5 wolves before they simply outnumbered him. In a last-ditch effort, Aydin channeled all his remaining energy into his left arm, engulfing his whole arm in blue flames. He slammed his fist into the ground as hard as he could and the flames spread throughout the entire void. His vision faded to black.

--

Covered in sweat and with a racing heart. "What was that!" he shouted inside his head. "We need to get going... we need to... stop whatever was causing this."
He noticed that it was already a few hours before noon, grabbed his gear and rushed back into the camp.

Martin had helped organize the rest of the camp and given all the information he had... people were pretty anxious all around, and they would have to wait for Roland's signal, were they to continue this trek or not? Martin for one was still determined, as a hot-headed stubborn forge mage would be (so in other words an average forge mage), but he knew there would be people who would rather stop from cowardice, likely that god-damned alchemist, Martin strongly disliked this guy. He figured Schmidt had been acting weird not for any particular reason rather than wanting to have some fun while he thought everyone else wouldn't figure it out. Pervert.

Martin had tasked himself with doing role call, and after he finished he retallied and realised Aydin was not here , he was about to inform Roland when Aydin came bursting in... "That's odd... we were all sleeping in the campsite..." he thought, "wait... didn't he go off to the river...?" Martin was unsure, that damn dream magic can really make a hellish mess out of your memories... He was about to greet Aydin but he realised be looked kind of scared, if Aydin had seen the same things they did that meant that their enemies magic was even strnger, if it was something different, well then that was something else certainly worse...

Martin greeted Aydin when he arrived, and told him what they knew and what had happened to them last night, as well as asking him what was wrong, "You look like you've seen a ghost, what's up?" Martin asked Aydin after giving him the story so far.

Roland had woke in the middle of it all and grabbed his sword.....the man had been sleeping in his armor.....he was never fooled by false senses for security.....he new better.....he stood.....and was immediately on edge.....he felt as if he was being watched.....but could see nor find anything.....he began to walk around the camp site....more marching gripping his sword with two hands and holding it strong infront of him.....he was certain there was something he must fight.....but couldnt find anything.....everyone was tossing and turning in their sleep.....Roland was glad he had awoke......he could only imagine what was going on inside their heads.....espicially the mages......the feeling in the air was fear, uncertainty, and a morbid feeling of approaching death........Roland continued like that for about 10 minutes before sense found him....and he went to run to find Jacob.....Jacob had been awake for this shift.....Roland reached the tree......Jacob was there....but he was staring at something in the air......nothing was there Roland could see...but he knew something was there for Jacob.......

Jacob, talking to himself, or to whatever was infront of him.
"MY WILL IS STRONGER THAN YOURS CREATURE!!"
......
"DO NOT TEMPT ME!!!! I AM NO BEAST!!!!"
........
"I SAY AGAIN BACK DOWN FROM THIS CAMP!!!! YOUR TIME WILL COME......WE ARE COMING FOR YOU!!!"
.............
Jacob was growing more and more......ferocious.......and scary.....his voice sinking more and more into a GROWL and a ROAR.
"Jacob!!!....Jacob!!! Snap out of it!!!"....Roland said but he had a strong urge......to NOT touch his friend.
...................
"WE ARE COMING FOR YOU!!!!......IM COMING FOR YOU!!!!.....I WILL DEVOUR YOU!!!!!.......YOU ARE NO MISTRESS OF MINE!!!!!! I ANSWER TO NO POWER BUT MY OWN!!!!!!"
Jacob was Transforming.........Roland had never seen this happen before......not in all the years Jacob has lived in Stalwart anyways......
His already monstrous form.....was growing....muscles bulging......claws lengthening......teeth growing to even more nasty points......his eyes growing blood shot...then just red.......his snout lengthens....his ears grow tall to a point.....his legs now twice their size as well as his arms.....his hair shed and regrew........The Wild Ones true form.....for the first time seen.....and to any who saw.......it was no long Jacob standing in the tree.......the limb snaps The Wild One falls to the dirt....lands on all fours......and with unimaginable speed......takes off into the jungle.....in the direction of the source of this evil.....

Roland watched......jaw dropped, as his friend and cohort stormed into the trees........"shit.......shit shit shit...."
Roland turns and runs back into the camp shouting at the people now starting to wake......"GATHER YOUR THINGS WE NEED TO MOVE FAST....COME ONE HURRY HURRY.......JACOB HAS CHARGED AHEAD AGAINST HIS WILL!!!!....WE GOTTA STOP HIM OR SAVE HIM IF THE NEED BE!!"
Roland walks up to where Schmidt is still dazed and confused and looking scared.....Roland just flips him out of his bed and starts to roll his shit up and stuff it in his bag for him......"Come on Schmidt! this is the time.....you are either with us to the end or backing out right now.....there will not be another chance to run away after this.........at least not a chance that has any survival."
Sophia was already ready to go.
Schmidt starts to check his things......now uncertain what he should do.....and remembering the command of his Guild Leader....."use their protection and if it seems hopeless just run....its more important we get the specimens.".....but Schmidt hadnt done near as much Gathering as his Guild Master had wanted........He begins to mumble and curse under his breath as he starts gathering up his bag and tent and sling it all over his shoulders.

Hans speaks up, "im sending my wolf back.......shes to uneased......the last thing i want is her to attack me against her will.....and i have to put her down.........shes smart enough to get home." he leans down and whispers in the wolfs ear....and it bows to Hans and takes off running back to stalwart.
Hans continues to speak, "I can feel the call now as well......Zimmer did also......we know which direction to go.....and with the state Jacobs in....between our abilities and the mages....we will be able to locate him Roland."
Roland speaks, "Good....Good.....im grateful you two came.....and didnt just send "your best".....we still have a chance....i know it!.....and sadly we are the only chance......we must continue!!!.....Gather your things....we are leaving as soon as everyone is packed."

After everyone had packed thanks to Roland and been informed of what had happened by Martin, they were heading north.

Martin was useless as a navigator, but he knew Baled would be astounding. Likely Sophie and Hans were their best hope. He was still carrying his friend , who was shivering, cold, with hardened skin and crusted eyes and even a bloody nose and ears. His veins pulsed with dark blood trying to escape. Baled would rather suffer than let whatever was possessing him out into the world.

A thought came Martin... What if Baled had entered this state by his own will in order to absorb the most of the darkness... Baled would do something like that, and he would have the power not only to sacrifice, but to keep that sacrifice worthy.

Martin followed Sophie's lead, who was seemingly a ranger of sorts. She definitely knew how to navigate.
Baled was becoming heavier, and Martin could no longer carry him, he was definitely strong for his age, at least part due to being a forge mage, but he couldn't carry a full grown man who head doubled his wait, he offered a deal to Aydin: "Aydin, if i could take your pack , would you carry Baled for me?"

Martin was still not very used to Baled being a man, it seemed weird... He had grown a foot, and also muscles. God, what was this ultimate destiny everyone talked about? Martin was sure Baled's destiny was much more than whatever this was, Baled was certainly something that would affect the world...

Marching onward to the Unknown

Post by Greyson » Fri Apr 27, 2018 10:36 am

Even though he was feeling uneasy about the current situation, Aydin knew that there was no turning back. Hunting monsters was something he was good at, but an enemy that's messing with his mind is something he never faced before, and the Vanguards hunting notes did not cover anything of the sort either. Whatever-- or whoever-- they were after was a big unknown and therefore had the upper hand.

Nothing worse for a hunter than to feel like the prey.

They were marching on, increasing the pace more often than not to catch up with Jacob, if that was even possible, as there still wasn't a clear trace to follow.
Denning was watching the left flank of the group, making sure to always have his shield between the treeline and the group. No one knew whether they were walking into a trap or an ambush after all, and he intended to be prepared for the worst case. It wasn't until recently that he started hearing movement in the underbrush but he couldn't tell whether it was real or just him imagining things because he was so on edge.

Aydin didn't fare better. Whatever magic messed with his dreams must've messed with the shards in his arm as well. His arm was constantly giving off a dim blue light and was giving off blue-ish smoke as well.
That alone was something that had him worried, but he knew he couldn't show it. The task at hand was too important to worry about the issues of the single person, and he was keen on keeping it that way.

"Find a trail, get to Jacob, find who or what is doing this and bring it to justice." He kept telling himself that over and over again to calm himself.
He noticed that he was starting to fall behind the pace of the group and started jogging until he was back on the right flank of the group, opposite of Denning, and matched his pace to the pace of the group again.
If anything was approaching the group, they would be ready to fight, but until now neither of them believed that they were being hunted.

after a few hours, some tracks became more visible than not, although still a very faint outline... they were obviously of assorted beasts, but they covered each other up and made more of a translucent veil of pseudo-symmetrical prints along the ground floor.
Martin had noticed them, which he was quite proud of, he wasn't trained per sé, but as a forge mage he had at least a little bit of a natural understanding of the earth, more specifically the minerals and ores in the ground, but the earth too.
By the end of the day, the tracks were still faint as a psychopath's ambiguous responses, Martin sat down. He had not gotten a reply from Aydin, so he took it as a no, and kept walking with him. He was exhausted now, but managed to construct a sort of trolley thing to carry Baled on. He was not looking well, he was basically hardened to stone by now, and his veins were pulsing 4 inches deeper out than they should be.. not to mention his grayed complexion, and a coldness that went to the bone... his eyes were so crusted now, you couldn't imagine them opening. most his orifices had crusted, and some even began turning to stone. his face had begun to melt, martin regulated the temperature as much he could, but this was some sort of unholy magic... dark magic, demon magic, blood magic, daemon magic, devil magic, black magic, martin didn't know, but right now it wasn't important.
Martin had also helped to keep Baled breathing, by keeping his nose open for the little air his heart-rate allowed him. His pulse had grown from a panicked spasm to a slow, dull, agonizing throb.. his veins looked as if his blood was replaced by ink, although the fluid was still his blood, but rather tainted with some force beyond uncanny.

Martin had thought about Baled, and realized if Cylia had come, she would have a chance to talk to him. He could not call her... His father had trained him to use birds and messengers, but there was not a flea around here, let alone a bird...
Martin thought of mana as his mind did often, though far much less than Baled's he was sure, Martin thought of his skills as a forge mage, and thought that it was odd how a forge mage could at least in some part counter demon magic or what seemed to be gorgon magic... Martin thought that perhaps all mana was in fact interconnected, and was truly just one entity, that coursed through reality itself, as bendable as a straw to those who could fathom it. In that respect he knew he had hit some truth, he remembered Baled, of course Baled, always Baled, who told him that mana was just like that, he had read something from his father's notes, hardly any had remained, and the ones that had were dwarfed, or maybe more accurately subatomicalized in comparison to Baled's fathers true understanding of mana... But if this were the case, then Martin figured he could only see so much of the mana spectrum, something baled had called the MAGIA SPECTRUMTH, probably a name his father had made for it... But Baled, was different... he could pick and choose anything from anywhere on the spectrum... it was a shame he was human, if he were born an elder species he could have lived eons to become the very possibly ultimate mage of the history of all the lands... but no, 120 years is what he got if lucky, 200 to 400 if he resorted to dark or blood magic... Baled wouldn't, he was too moral... ethical might be the word.

Martin sat down as the camp came to a rest, he didn't feel hungry tonight, besides as a forge mage he had taught himself a spell before he left, it was known as Keep the Kiln Churning Hot, where if he were to cast it on himself, he would have to focus oft, but would be immune to hunger or earthly desires for the most part. that wasn;t neccesary, he just didn't feel like eating, that's what 12 hours of looking at your totemfied, darkblood-surging friend will do to you...
Martin wished Cylia was here, she could help.. He head off to bed, early again setting up a campfire, this one had Stubborn Flames that would not be swayed off their purpose to light the campsite. The sentinels baled set up were the real catalysts of yesternights plight.. they didnèt cause it, but they made the unknown antagonist's to Martin and his friends spell grow 10x over. Martin figured this out by calling back to Baled setting them up, he always put protection wards on everything, with ease to make sure there was a half the chance things would be taken advantage of, but those ones had been faultified by the dream magic, that had treated the ward like a mind, and deconstructed it from the INSIDE... Martin figured if Baled ever tried to destroy things like that he would be able to wipe out threats himself. no, that wasn't him.

Martin slept.

Second Night

Post by Greyson » Mon Apr 30, 2018 8:17 pm

The day passed faster than the last one, mostly because the dream incident cost the group half a days worth of sunlight, and marching through the wild in the night was nothing less than suicidal.
Aydin thought about how he didn't answer Martin when he asked him to switch carrying Baled for his backpack. Aydin was trained to fight the monsters in the wild, while Martin was not, so he needed his hands free to wield his weapons, not to mention that Aydin was very cautious when it came to his equipment, therefore he wouldn't let anyone else carry it for him. Especially because of all the herbs he has stashed inside it.

-

When the group settled down for another rest, Aydin noticed that Baleds condition had not improved, but rather seemed to worsen by the hour.
If it was a magical condition, then there weren't a lot of people out there that would be able to help him, with Martin being the only other mage around. And he didn't look like he knew what to do.

Using the last remnants of sunlight, Aydin and Schmidt strayed from the campsite to look for herbs and other plants that they could use to make a concoction that might ease Baleds suffering.
Aydin had a hard time trying to convince Schmidt to help him, but in the end, he could convince him, and they found what they needed rather quickly.
Using the techniques of preparing herbs for brewing, Aydin learned from his herbalist mother, he prepared as much as he could before leaving the brewing itself to Schmidt.
"Maybe having alchemists around isn't all that bad.", Aydin thought.

Usually brewing alchemic compounds takes a lot of time and thyme, but Schmidt clearly knew what he was doing, especially when it came down to reducing the time of creating the concoction itself without sacrificing its potency. He filled it into a small glass flask and headed over to where Martin had put Baled.

He kneeled down next to the poor, young man, felt the temperature, and then poured the potion into Baleds mouth while gently stroking his throat to stimulate the muscles to swallow.
He proceeded to grab a piece of cloth from his bag and poured some of his water on it, folded it, and cleaned Baleds face.
For the entire duration of the groups rest, Schmidt did not leave Baleds side for a second.
-

In the meantime Aydin tried to get some rest without allowing himself to sleep, as he was scared of what that might do with his mind. He did not want anything like last time to happen again, so he chewed herbs and meditated until the group was ready to get back to following Jacob.

Baled woke everyone up in the middle of the night.

It was a total accident, but a horrifying one nonetheless.

As the herbs had been sent through Baled's system, he had grown warmer, to the point where he was cool rather than the frigid he had been when they started. His veins had shrunk from 5x the usual size to just double, the darkness grew transparent, and meek. Baled looked less like death and more like a very insufferable flu.

As schmidt helped him with an odd display of kindness from such a grumpy guy, Baled had grown healthier, by morning's rays he would be nearly fixed, and the sunlight would surely have him awake by noon. very lucky they had found such strong herbs, they were certainly lucky to have looked in a Herbfield blessed centuries ago by a fertility mage, specifically one of pollen, who shall remain nameless and left to rest in legends. Normal herbs would have been useless, but these herbs, with Aydin and Schmidt's skills were enough to get Baled fixed.

that was until the demons broke free.

It was probably best if the group had just left Baled to die, and preferably buried him many kilometers under the ground, their loyalty was appreciated, but came with a price. The immense amount of dark dream energy sent towards the camp, enough to topple a polis within days or weeks, depending on the size, average intelligence, defense and preparation had been absorbed by the young unfortunate destitute, and was now being released in a spectacle. thanks to a rather odd parameter, the size of Baled's stretched mouth, where the demons chose to blast out from, they were limited to not a field sized storm of instant-death, but rather four mighty daemons or darkness, shadow, and oblivion... also a lot of blood and dream fog came out.

Baled awoke with a shock, as did the camp, as the noise that had been made was enough to have their ears ringing and bleeding, and to have their hearts physically shrink as a side effect of the horrendous roar.

These daemons attacked down on Baled, who vanished with a cry, he appeared near Martin's fire, he was way too weak to help out this fight. His friends would have to kill these things, banish them to another dimension, make them flee and terrorize someone else, or another creative solution.

Martin was shocked at Baled's sudden awakening, and was therefore the most distracted, he was attacked by two Daemons, while Schmidt (the closest to Baled ) was attacked by the other two

Martin was close to Sophie and Aydin, while Schmidt is near the rest.

OOC: Yeah! A fight!

Daemon Ambush

Post by Greyson » Thu May 03, 2018 3:25 pm

It happened in a matter of seconds, but now Aydin was glad he didn't sleep and kept his weapon and shield with him.
He didn't know what exactly happened, but he knew of daemons, even though they weren't really the Monster Hunters prey of choice. After Baled reappeared near Martin, Aydin jumped up and grabbed his shield.
He saw two of the daemons lunge at Schmidt, while the other two went for Martin and Baled, and knew that he had to make a quick decision, he couldn't help both at the same time.

Schmidt was on the ground, shielding himself with his arms. He clearly was panicked, which was understandable given the fact that the person he just was taking care of had blood, daemons and who knows what else coming out of his mouth. Without being prepared for something that shocking, a mental breakdown was likely. And now two of those things were closing in on him. The closest to him let out an ear-piercing shriek and lunged with its claws at him.
Without anything to protect himself, he was sure that this was the end of him. All he could do now was close his eyes.
The next thing he heard was a metallic impact right in front of him and a daemon roaring. Aydin had thrown his shield right in between the lunging daemon and Schmidt, which resulted in the daemon hitting the shield instead of him. He got a chance of surviving this mess now. While the two daemons shifted their attention to the intervening Aydin, Schmidt managed to run to cover near his tent, and managed to grab his equipment, two daggers, and a belt fitted with silver-shard bombs.

While Aydin rushed in to get to his shield, sliding the last meter and slashing at the closest daemon in a circular motion, Dennings had managed to get to Martin and helped him fight their tow daemons, blood now dripping from a deep cut in his left side after taking the brunt of the first strike at Martin. But even if the odds were not in his favor, he still had his trademark grin on his face. He enjoyed the challenge, especially because only a few Hunters ever encountered daemons and even fewer lived to tell the tale.

At times like these, Aydin loved his weapon of choice. His shield was large enough to protect his whole body, and his sword (especially because of the modifications he did to it earlier) was big but still easy to wield.
He managed to get in a few slashes more, splattering black who-knows-what over the ground, but the daemons wounds seemed to heal quicker than Aydin could make them.
Using his shield to guard himself against another retaliation strike from the daemons, he gave himself a few precious seconds to think about what he had read about them.
What he remembered filled him with dread.
He remembered the drawing of a magical rune which was supposed to be put on the arm of the person fighting the daemon. But it was not supposed to be simply drawn, but rather carved into the arm and then had to be infused with any sort of magic. So it was blood magic, alright.
Aydin was out of options though.
He stuck his sword into the dirt and pushed back the attacking daemon with his shield, switching the shield from his left hand to his right hand in the process.

Hoping he bought himself enough time, he grabbed his knife, fell on one knee putting his shield in front of him to guard him, and carved the rune into his right forearm.
It turned out pretty decent and the daemons were still focusing on bringing down his shield before him instead of flanking him.
All he had to do now was infuse the bleeding rune with magic, but Baled was too weakened and Martin too far away. "The shard!" he thought and pushed his left hand on the wound and ignited a flame in his palm. While it did close the self-inflicted wound, Aydin also felt a throbbing in his arm and saw that the rune was glowing and pulsing in a dark red.
While inspecting the rune, one of the two daemons did figure out that it could easily go around Aydin's shield and was now standing right in front of him and was preparing to strike.

Aydin wasn't fast enough to get his sword though and took a heavy hit to his left shoulder. The daemon seemed to have tried to take out his shield arm.
Aydin bashed the daemon with his shield to get to his sword, this time succeeding in getting a hold of it and attacked the daemon with an upward slash, connecting right with its left arm, severing it in the process.

The rune seemed to work. A loud roar filled the air. Aydin readjusted his stance. It was time for him to push back, hoping that the two young mages, or any other member of the group, will find a way on their own to do damage to the daemons.

Martin would not have been able to fight if not for Dennings...

Dennings jumped in and took a hit, shocking Martin out of his state.

Martin could use fireballs to burn these hellish beasts, but they probably had at least a small immunity to fire, the blue fire in Aydin's arm would probably ignore that defense, Martin could not figure out what kind of fire that was... possibly just colorflame, but it was too strong and useful for such a mundane mana

'This isn't the time to catalog fire,' Martin yelled to himself in his brain, "now is the time to damn well use it" he concluded
Martin did not have time to warn Denning, he just hope he would slash once the time was right.

Martin spent the mana of two fireballs and infused it into a heat enchant, putting it onto dennings sword, while using the rest of his mage power to keep his sword from melting.. after moments he bound the sword intowards it's own heat, and it coalesced into a hot red trim around the sword blade

Martin finally placed a holy fire and a hellfire-warding heat signature on the blade, making it exceptional for daemon and even demon hunting

Denning's sword now is extremely hot, and much stronger against demonic entities.

Martin was exhausted, with a gasp he falls and screams to denning "USE THE SWORD!" in his best bellowmage voice, a bellowmage voice is basically a charisma-infused emergency-infused easytobreak-temper-infused yell that holds some commanding, Martin said it more as a strong suggestion, only doing it to get Denning aware his sword has changed, and now would be the best time to use it

the second Daemon slashes at Martin, he rolls, but it comes to strike again...

Daemon Ambush - Dennings perpective

Post by Greyson » Thu May 03, 2018 8:03 pm

((Dennings weapon is actually a Lance. But it's been a while so it's not a big problem))
While glancing at the group he noticed Denning inspecting his giant Lance and Shield. Both were roughly his size, if not bigger, and therefore had quite the weight behind them.

---

While Aydin was doing his best to protect Schmidt and fighting off two of the daemons on his own, Denning had jumped in to guard the young mages, getting wounded pretty badly with the first attack of the daemons.
He shifted his weight back to his front leg, putting most of his weight behind his shield, that had no problem covering both him and the mages.
He readjusted the position ever so slightly whenever the daemons tried to go around the shield.

He never lost his smile though. He loved this. Moment's like these were the reason why he wanted to become a Vanguard, and he had proven himself on more than enough hunts against some of the tougher and bigger monsters roaming around Stalwart Landing.
And it wasn't like there was any room for doubt now.

He saw Aydin getting hit by the daemons multiple times, and he wanted to get over there and help him, but he knew that the mages had to be protected if they wanted to have a chance against this kind of enemy.

Then he heard some mumbling at first, then his lance started to feel hotter. He thought that it was his blood, dripping on his glove, but then he saw that the color of his lance was changing to a hot reddish color.
"I knew that mage must've had a backup plan for something like that", he thought, preparing to strike at his foes with unrelenting force. He shifted his weight again, putting his left foot in front know as if about to start running and locked his lance under his right arm.

Then he heard Martin shout at him to use his weapon, and so he did.
He started off with a shield bash, right as the daemon was striking the shield again, leaving it open of a counterattack. Its arm flew up leaving its side exposed, just what Denning needed. "Time for my payback!", he yelled, piercing right through the daemon, impaling it, lifting it up and letting it slide down the burning hot lance. The daemon was roaring and wailing in agony until Dennings threw the daemon away with a slashing motion.

It twitched for a few seconds but then stopped moving and curled up. He had no time to waste and turned directly towards the next daemon and kicked it straight in the chest area, making it tumble a few steps backward.

Apparently, that was just the opening Sophia needed. She had ditched her bow and arrows for this one and instead had her rifle trained on the other daemon.with just a small movement of her finger, she unleashed a hail of metal, each piece having an orange trail following it. A loud explosion sound following each released metal piece. Denning had worked with the Way of the Hawk before and therefore knew that these were called bullets. And it seemed that they must've been special once too because they just tore the staggered daemon to pieces. When it hit the ground, a black mass pooling around it, Sophia gave Denning a thumbs up and rushed in to take Baled away from the two remaining daemons. "Don't worry about him." she said, "I'll get him somewhere safer for now. I'll take Schmidt too. We'll regroup when this situation is dealt with." She patted a signal flare on her tight and said "I'll shoot mine when you shoot yours. And now help your buddy!". She lifted Baled up, how seemed to be still too weak to walk and signaled Schmidt to follow her. She was almost gone before she turned around one last time "Be careful, okay?" And then she was gone, taking the young mage and Schmidt with her.
