speaking from a transtemporal perspective, they are.

Because in the year 2XXX, the Lunar Emperor of Infinity cast the forbidden spell, Inherited-Soul Hypergenesis, with the aims of sculpting the sapience of all targets he identified as 'Canadian' into a singular eusocial hivemind that transgressed the bounds of space and time.

Unfortunately, he forgot to carry the one in a certain calculation and the operation went haywire, creating a gargantuan corporeal mass of eternal torture and despair known as "The Screaming Monolith" which contained all of the haphazardly fused bodies and minds of his numerous targets.

This meat monstrosity was in constant physical agony, but also supreme psychological suffering as the bounds of one individual's mind and another's became blurred - leading to mass insanity and panic that self-perpetuated in a horrific weave of ebbing and flowing agitating violations of a perverse nexus of fractured psyches.

Outside of that subjective perspective however, The Screaming Monolith became an infamous calamity as it spread throughout all of North America, expanding at a reckless pace like a cancerous tumor. Thousands of innocents could not be evacuated in time, and became trapped inside of its fleshy mass before eventually being digested deep within.

No rescues could be carried out due to a lack of resources and manpower, but several cameras were pierced through to allow the survivors to share their final moments with their families. Tragically, many of them only hoarsely screamed through their half-dissolved throats without realizing anything of the outside influence, while the few that had the wherewithal to notice the intrusion would instead beg incessantly to be put to a merciful death.

The probes were not equipped with the capacity to deliver euthanasia, and so their pleas were unanswered.
