The Daily Thread
Re: The Daily Thread
I always try to have a child like mindset.
But since my college has started,
I've been thinking of some complicated stuff.
Which I don't like.
But if I don't behave like an adult by people's definition,
I'll lose them.
I've never been too sad about not having much friends.
But nowadays I feel like I should socialize more.
So I'll have to change myself according to the societal expectations here.
I don't know man, I just can't ignore what other people think about me nowadays.

Re: The Daily Thread
Hm...
I can sort of relate, I think.
My advice is this: It sounds like you're having trouble fitting in with the people around you. There can be a lot of reasons for this, but only some of them might be under your control.
For example, if you are a very nerdy person who is interested in a lot of fictional media - but the social group around you are not interested in that sort of thing - you will have trouble finding common interests with them. In this case, I recommend looking elsewhere to find groups with similar interests.
Another example, if you are behaving in ways that negatively affect those around you, it might be a good idea to try and change your behaviors to be more appropriate. This is a natural part of maturing.
I don't know what kind of situation you're in specifically, though.
Overall, a good rule of thumb is to 'only change yourself if the changes are reasonable'. If peers are pressuring you into doing something you are uncomfortable doing, you don't need to succumb to that. However, if you are being socially ostracized for good reason (maybe you are often rude to others, or perhaps you have poor hygiene) then it is important to change these bad habits of yours in order to improve your social life, which is necessary for a positive mental wellbeing.
Hopefully this makes sense and is a bit helpful. Generally, I believe in doing whatever one wants to do, as long as it doesn't harm others. If you are at no fault, you don't need to change yourself - just find people who will accept you as you are. But, if you are doing something bad, you should try to change those behaviors because you will become a more pleasant person who many people will get along with.
Sorry if this is overstepping, it seemed like you were looking for advice but maybe you were just ranting. I mean no offense :O

I really needed some advice man, thank you.
I think I'm really overthinking about this.
I am doing what I love in college.
I am sad without any particular reason. The day I realized that, I stopped thinking about things I can't do anything about.
Maybe because I am transitioning into adulthood, I'm tensed about it.
Yeah I'm really overthinking about this.

Re: The Daily Thread
I'm happy I could help and that you're feeling better
I can relate to overthinking. Sometimes it only causes stress.
I wonder, what are you doing in college? I'm interested if you care to share!
Being sad without any particular reason isn't invalid either. People don't need 'reasons' to have emotions, I think.
Personally, I'm not feeling great lately. Like you, I'm worried about school-related matters (university in my case). I don't really enjoy it at all, but it's something I really ought to do if I'm able (in Canada, a bachelor's degree is almost as fundamental/necessary as a high school diploma).
More than anything, I definitely struggle with work ethic. Most of my problems are of my own making - in a way. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just a lazy asshole, or if it's an issue stemming from anxiety or maybe ADHD? If I could know for sure, maybe I'd know what to do to fix myself.
Fortunately, I don't worry about the far future as much as I used to (like entering the workforce, which I feel fear, resentment and uncertainty towards). 'Not thinking about things you can't do anything about' is definitely a good motto for reducing stress.
I just wish I better knew how to 'be happy' in general. The ancients would probably tell me I have a naturally melancholic temperament or something. Then they'd tell me to drain my black bile and some halfwit ""doctor"" would perform medical experiments on my kidneys. I guess things could be worse, huh?

Guys I’m trying so hard to match your shitposts in 20k but it’s like a muscle I haven’t worked out in a minute.
Here’s my 2 cents. Have some grace for yourself. It’s good to meet people where they’re at, and sometimes you meet good people who you will build community with. It’s a trial and error over your entire life to meet and keep the people you want to be around.
My philosophy about making has always been it’s better to have a smaller group of genuinely interesting, nice, funny people than to play any sort of popularity game.
Happiness will follow when you have a community around you, big or small, that helps you self actualize and grow into your true self.
There’s also so much to stress out about in life that makes it difficult to feel happy. But there’s a lot to be grateful about too. Making a gratitude list is a good way to remind yourself of the reasons that things are good.
That’s what asdfcon is for buddy.

I was in a tie with with Thingerdudes for Best Artist 2011, but they created these lovely banners so I'm grateful.

Re: The Daily Thread
gratitude list is one of those things that sounds incredibly stupid but is actually a really good idea....
Also, I once again advise everyone that asdfcon is a terrible idea. You have been warned. (THIS IS NOT A THREAT)

Today I came home from 2 weeks holiday in Japan. It was amazing.
